We continue our Judges sermon series looking at the life of Jephthah. While he was a mighty warrior from a known tribe, he also bore the shame of having a prostitute as a mother. This was used as ridicule and eventually had him ousted from his father's tribe. But Jephthah's rejection wasn't permanent as God is in the redemption business. Hear more about Jephthah and see how God is calling you to look, not at Jephthah, but at Jesus, our rejected Savior.

As we turn back to our series on the book of Judges, we look at the lives of two minor judges, Tola and Jair. While their accounts are short, their lives reveal the two paths we take with the stewarding of the lives God give us. We either steward with selfish ambition, like Jair, or we steward with selfless sacrifice pointing to the glory of God, like Tola. What do the actions of your life reveal about what you are living for?

Today, we look at the life of Abimelech, the son of Gideon. His story reveals the ripple effects of Gideon's actions, specifically in his words and actions. We are reminded that sin unconfessed is sin constantly growing. Also, that the Spirit of God will not redeem that which we are unwilling to confess. Learn more, as we engage with the the ninth chapter of the book of Judges.

Today we looked at the story of Gideon, God's chosen deliverer for Israel against the Midianites. Gideon's story allows us to look at the actions of our lives, our fear of man, our lack of courage, and the many times our beliefs do not match our actions. We also see in this story who God is; consistently loving, patient, and caring as He brings his plans and purposes to fruition.

As humans, we are often impatient. This reveals a desire for our plans and purposes to come to fruition at our desired timing. The reality is that we have little control to bring this into reality. The one who does is the sovereign God whose timing is always perfect. What does it look like to rest and rejoice in Jesus, our timely Savior.

As we look into the account of the third deliverer raised up by God for Israel, we see God choosing a foreigner named Shamgar. His account gets only one verse containing one sentence, yet God reveals plenty for us to work through and chew on as we look to our ultimate Savior, Jesus.

We look at the second deliverer in Judges, the left-handed Benjaminite named Ehud. He was skilled as a warrior, even as he faced his inadequacies. What are your strengths and weaknesses? We pick back up in our sermon series through the book of Judges looking at the first deliver God brings to Israel, Othniel. The story of Othniel reveals God's love and patience and how he deals with the sin of Israel as well as our sin today.
