1. - The Holy Spirit is more than a power or something that is mentioned in the doxology or in a ritual. He is the Third Person of the Trinity. He is God.

2. - He has a specific ministry that is often described using symbols to help us understand our need of Him

3. - You need His personal ministry and work in your life

4. - He is called the breath of God or the one who brings life

5. - He is the counselor to teach, guide, and help you understand so that you can experience personally all the Father has promised you as a believer

6. - He descended like a dove to demonstrate the comfort and peace He brings

7. - He is like oil symbolizing the anointing and blessing He gives you in doing the works that the Lord has prepared for you to do

8. - His work is to convict you of sin, bring you to repentance, regenerate and deliver you form the power and dominion of sin

9. - He is the Spirit of Holiness

10. - He helps prepare our hearts to be a living sacrifice so that He can purify your heart and mind from inbred sin and carnality so that you are a vessel of honor

11. - He is like fire because He purifies your spirit, soul and body

12. - He equips and empowers you to do the good, pleasing and perfect will of God

13. - He is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond what you could ever ask or think in order to bring glory in His church and to Christ Jesus.

-God is moving by His Spirit in all the earth

- Faith comes by hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit and hearing by the word of Christ

- In order to fulfill the high and Holy calling the two fold problem of sin must be cured in the human heart

-The work of Christ through the baptism with the Holy Spirit produces the purity and power necessary for life, Godliness, victorious living and power filled service

Big Idea: God wants to show Himself clearly to us as we do our part in depending on Him through prayer.

Lessons:

1. Problems often come when we are at rest spiritually

2. It is often those closest to us that cause the harshest problems

3. Prayer is the most important response to a battle

4. God will often use whatever is currently in our hands

a. What did Moses’ rod represent?

i. …a recognition of God’s authority in this battle

ii. …a remembrance of how God used that staff many times before

iii. …a recognition that they could not succeed without God

5. Friends and family are necessary for your spiritual success

6. It is important to testify of God’s victories in your life

a. Why is it important for us to remember/write/journal/testify?

i. It reminds us that if God acted in the past He will act in the future

ii. It reminds us that God’s promise will come true

iii. It builds others up and prepares them for their next battle

7. God purposely shows Himself to us and the direction we should go

a. Jehovah Nissi: The LORD is my Banner

i. Purpose of a Banner:

1. It ways in a place that everyone could see it

2. It represented certain characteristics of the battalion or leader

3. It gave clear directions to the soldiers

4. It was a rally point for the solders

b. Introducing himself as Jehovah Nissi God was telling His people:

i. I will not hide from you

ii. I will sparkle and glisten so that the direction is made clear

iii. Look to me for courage

iv. Trust my directives

v. I will always make myself clear to you

Big Idea: Jehovah Rohi means that God is able to meet all of your spiritual, directional, physical, emotional, and future needs as our Shepherd.

Jehovah (or “LORD”) means “the self-revealing one.”

Rohi means “to tend, pasture, shepherd”

Sermon in a Sentence:

Personal and national drama is a fact of life, but we can have personal peace because we know the Peace Maker, Jehovah Shalom.

1. God had given the Israelites everything they _ to be a great nation.

2. The Israelite’s sin brought brokenness, loss & ___ _ to their people.

3. God responds to their brokenness by providing _ __ to lead them.

4. Cycles of the Israelites during Judges: Rebellion, Oppression, Repent, Judge, Peace

6. Believer’s Observations on Drama: Sometimes drama is forced on you by the _________ of others OR God allows drama in your life to _____ __ you. Trials: Adverse circumstances that God introduces or allows in order to identify where we are _______ & to prepare us where He wants us to go. You’ll have drama even when you’re centered in God’s will.

7. Recognize that it was __ __ who allowed drama.

Big Idea: God introduced himself to Abraham as Jehovah Jireh—The LORD Will Provide. And He will provide for us, too, at the end of our contradictory trials.

Jehovah Shalom - The Lord is Peace; Jehovah Raah - The Lord is my Shepherd; Jehovah Rapha - The Lord Who Heals; Jehovah Nissi - The Lord My Banner; Jehovah Shammah - The Lord is There

1. Abraham knew the voice & _Intent of God.

2. But Abraham found himself in a mess of _contradictions_ (covenantal, theological, emotional, social, relational)

Trials: Adverse circumstances that God introduces or allows in order to identify where we are spiritually and to prepare us for where He wants us to go in the future.

3. His trial was actually a purposeful _test_

4. He responded to the trial _immediate_-ly.

5. He stepped into the trial with great _faith_ in God.

6. God put him in a situation that only He could _fix_

7. He recognized that God was at work in his trail

8. “_Provision_” means a challenge was seen before-hand & thus provided for. God’s vision leads to His provision.

Application: What must God see so that He might provide in your times of trials?

He needs to see: active & immediate obedience

“Many of us don’t know God as Jehovah Jireh because God is still waiting for us to act on what He said even though we may not understand how it’s going to work out.”

Elohim: The Creator God

Big Idea: God introduces His characteristics to us through the purposeful revelation of His many names. His very first name introduction is Elohim, the mighty Creator God.

• Jehovah-shalom: The Lord is Peace

• Jehovah-raah: The Lord is my Shepherd

• El Roi: God Who Sees

• Jehovah-jireh: The Lord Will Provide

• Jehovah-rapha: The Lord Who Heals

• Jehovah-nissi: The Lord My Banner

What was He wanting us to know when He called himself Elohim?

1. Elohim meant that God is distinct from His creation (Transcendent)...Transcendent: to exist above and independent from; to rise above all that is created

2. Elohim meant that God is apart from the constraints of time (Timeless)

3. Elohim means that God is apart from the constraints of space (Omnipresent)...Omnipresent: God is present everywhere…at all the same time

4. Elohim means that God is an intensely personal God (Intimate)

Application:

How can understanding God as Elohim change my life?

1. We can live knowing that the Creator owns it all

2. We can live knowing that the Creator has the rights of ownership

3. We can live knowing that God sees us with with tremendous value.
