As we look to identify the idols in our lives, we need to be aware of our proclivity to worship the cultural norms of our world.

We are called to be different from the world. We are a holy people and we can not find our identity in the world. We need to love those in the culture but we can not bow for the culture.

When we are looking to identify idols in our life what we will often find is that the true idol we worship most is ourself. This is certainly true when we allow prejudice to get in the way of our love for others.

We are called to tear down a mindset that would prefer those "like us".

One of the biggest idols facing the western church today is that of politics and earthly power. Jesus has called us not to be citizens of this earth or nation but to pledge our lives to his eternal kingdom. 

We check our hearts and lives for political idols by considering what we rely and depend on and checking what our hearts are most aligned with.

To know that we are made in God’s image is a fundamentally important truth. Throughout time God’s people have struggles with idolatry (putting things before him) despite of God’s direct command to not do so. 

Idolatry in our lives is often rooted in our own insecurities. We need to know who we are and who’s we are as we lay aside idols and worship the only one who is truly worthy.

The story of the prodigal son is a powerful reminder of God’s grace in our lives. The story of his older brother is an equally powerful reminder of the importance of the need for us to always be celebrating the work of the Father in the lives of those around us. 

We should be people who are always welcoming others into the family of God, not blinded by our pride or self righteousness.

Jesus told a story in Luke 15 that illustrates clearly and succinctly the Gospel message. This story of two sons and their ever loving father is our story in Jesus.

You should know, no matter how far you’ve run from God, No matter where you are or have been, God says to us, “I want you back!”

You are a leader!

God has placed inside of you all that is needed to lead others but in order to lead others well we need to be spirit lead and self controlled.

In the final message of this series we are encouraged to surrender to God's working in our lives and to have self control. We do this so that we can be the healthiest version of ourselves and in turn the best leaders possible.

You are a leader!

True leadership is NOT bossing people around or telling people what to do! Instead true leadership is about setting an example for others to follow.

Before we can be the leaders God is calling us to be, we need to build our life on a strong personal walk with him which will then be lived out in front of those around us!

You are a leader! In different areas each of us have the opportunity to step into the calling of leadership on our lives.

As we begin this series on leadership we are looking at Paul's encouragement to Timothy to endure in his leadership. This calling isn't for quitters, nor for the faint of heart but with patience and the power of God we can build lives of leading others to Jesus.
