Today’s guest, Gary Frank, is a well-known and popular actor who’s been immortalized for his portrayal of “Willie Lawrence” on the groundbreaking TV show, “Family”, for which he won an Emmy Award in 1977 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
He also played “Jeff Reid” on “Sons and Daughters”, and he’s guest starred in dozens of classic TV shows including “Ironside”, “The Streets of San Francisco”, “Charlie’s Angels”, “Fantasy Island”, “Hart to Hart”, “Hill Street Blues”, “Murder She Wrote”, “Matlock”, “L.A. Law”, “Star Trek: Deep Space 9”, and many more. He’s also appeared in some great TV movies including “The Gift”, “Enola Gay”, “Unspeakable Acts”, “People Like Us”, “Deliver Them from Evil”, “Getting Up and Going Home”, Untamed Love”, “Death in Small Doses”, “Prison of Secrets”, and the terrific 1997 miniseries, “House of Frankenstein”.
And now, he’s written a highly compelling, intensely personal and sometimes heart wrenching memoir entitled, “Up From Down: A Journal”, which chronicles his turbulent journey navigating not only the bitter realities of show business, but most importantly, how he overcame his inner demons and substance abuse stemming from a traumatic childhood, which were threatening to destroy his family relationships and career.
