Today’s special guest, Donna Mills, is a highly popular and beloved, multi-award-winning actress and producer who has been immortalized by her unforgettable portrayal of the conniving, scheming “Abby Cunningham” on the blockbuster TV series, “Knots Landing”, for which she won 3 Soap Opera Digest Awards. 

But beyond that iconic role, our guest has brought us dozens of memorable performances in a career that has spanned 6 decades. She appeared on Broadway in Woody Allen’s hilarious play, “Don’t Drink the Water”. On the big screen, she played Clint Eastwood’s girlfriend in “Play Misty For Me”, and she’s been many other great movies like “The Incident”, “Murph the Surf”, “Life Gets in the Way”, “Joy”, “Turnover”, “Origin”, and “Best Mom”, for which she won a Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival Award for Best Supporting Actress.  

On television, besides her work on “Knots Landing”, she played “Jane Miller” in “The Good Life”, she was “Laura Donnelly” in “Love is a Many Splendored Thing”, she was “Victoria Trisk” in “Hilton Head Island”, and she was “Madeline Reeves” on “General Hospital”, for which she won an Emmy Award. 

She’s guest starred in numerous classic TV shows including “Gunsmoke”, “Marcus Welby”, “McMillan & Wife”, “The Six Million Dollar Man”, “Hawaii Five-O”, “Melrose Place”, “Nip/Tuck” and “NCIS”.  She starred in many highly acclaimed TV movies and miniseries including “Woman on the Run”, “He’s Not Your Son”, “Alice in Wonderland”, “The World’s Oldest Living Bridesmaid”, “In My Daughter’s Name”, “The Stepford Husbands”, “Deadly Revenge”, “V.C. Andrews’ Dawn”, and of course, the 1997 miniseries “Knots Landing: Back to the Cul-de-Sac”.   

And in 2005, she reunited with her “Knots Landing” cast mates for the highly anticipated TV special, “Knots Landing Reunion: Together Again”.  And recently, our guest along with Joan Van Ark and Michele Lee launched a brand new podcast called, “We’re Knot Done Yet.” 

And if all of that weren’t enough, our guest is also a passionate advocate for the environment. She co-founded an organization called E C O, which stands for Earth Communications Office, which has been instrumental in numerous initiatives including public awareness campaigns, recycling and energy saving programs.

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Andrea Simon, Author, “Bashert: A Granddaughter’s Holocaust Quest”

About Harvey's guest:

Today’s guest, Andrea Simon, is a multi-award winning writer from York City, whose captivating and historically important book entitled “Bashert: A Granddaughter’s Holocaust Quest” moved me so much that I just had to invite her on our show. In this engrossing book, she tells of her search for her roots, which began in Voŭčyn, a town in Belarus, where her beloved grandmother came from, before creating a new life in America. 

Through interviews, personal testimonies, historical accounts, archival documents and family anecdotes, the book reveals the unprecedented barbarism of the Nazis, and the brutal reality of the massacres of the Jews who were living in Soviet territory occupied by the Germans after June of 1941, and before the Nazis came up with the “final solution” in 1942. 

Although most people think of concentration camps and gas chambers when they think of the Holocaust, the fact is that between 40 and 50 percent of the Jews killed during the Holocaust, were killed by methods other than by being gassed. We’re talking about savagely horrific mass murders, exterminating the Jewish populations of dozens of cities, towns and villages, by being shot in the head and then piled in mass graves in the forest. In particular, our guest uncovered the facts surrounding the massacre on September 22, 1942, of 500 Jews from the town of Voŭčyn, where her family came from, AND the even more shocking and barbaric massacre of 50,000 Jews including 9,000 children, in Bronna Gora, located in a forest between Brest and Minsk.  

The book also deals with the refusal of the Soviets, after the war, to recognize and commemorate the Jewish genocide that took place on their territory.  In 2021 the book was ranked at number one on the Book Authority’s list of the “Best Holocaust Biography Books of All Time,” and in 2023, the book received Honorable Mention for the Eric Hoffer Award in the category of Legacy Nonfiction. 

Our guest has also written several other books, including “Esfir Is Alive” and “Floating in the Neversink”, both of which received numerous prestigious awards.  Our guest has published numerous stories and essays, and she’s received many prestigious literary honors, including the Ernest Hemingway First Novel Contest, two Dortort Creative Writing Awards, the Stark Short Fiction Prize, the Short Story Society Award, and the Authors in the Park Short Story Writing Contest.  

Our guest holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the City College of New York where she has taught creative writing courses.  She’s also taught courses on “How to Write About Your Family — and Still Talk to Them Afterwards”, and she’s even taught a course on how to write about your mother without guilt. That course led to an anthology published last year called “Here’s the Story … Nine Women Write Their Lives”.

Today’s special guest, Judy Collins, is a legendary, multi-award winning singer, songwriter, humanitarian, activist and author who is universally beloved for her sublime, angelic voice, her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards, her wonderfully eclectic repertoire, and her bold yet vulnerable, deeply poignant original compositions. 

She’s released over 55 albums, many of which have been certified gold and platinum. And she’s had over 2 dozen hit singles, including “Both Sides Now”, which won a Grammy Award for Best Folk Recording, and has been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Her recording of “Send in the Clowns” earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance, and the song won the Grammy Award in 1976 for Song of the Year. 

And in 2017, her rendition of "Amazing Grace" was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Her other hit singles include “Someday Soon”, “Chelsea Morning”, “Turn, Turn, Turn”, “Hard Times for Lovers”, “Home Again”, “Fires of Eden”, and many more. She’s received 5 more Grammy nominations, including one for her most recent album, “Spellbound”, for Best Folk Album. 

Her television specials and DVD concerts including “Christmas at the Biltmore Estate”, “Live At The Metropolitan Museum Of Art”, “Live In Ireland” and “Wildflowers in Concert” were highly acclaimed and won numerous awards. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature for her 1974 film, “Antonia: A Portrait of the Woman”.  And she’s received a whole slew of other prestigious awards and accolades including being inducted into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame, receiving an honorary doctorate, receiving numerous Lifetime Achievement Awards, and being given the Golden Plate Award by the American Academy of Achievement.

Today’s guest, BernNadette Stanis, highly popular actress and author who will always be remembered for her portrayal of the quick-witted, savvy “Thelma Evans”, on the groundbreaking TV sitcom, “Good Times”, developed and executive produced by the legendary Norman Lear, and which ran for 6 seasons in the late ‘70s.  “Good Times” was the first TV show to give us an authentic portrayal of the Black family – a household with 2 loving, devoted, hardworking parents, and 3 positive, motivated children. The show broke barriers and redefined what family, community and success looked like for Black America.  

Our guest was the first Black female teenager to be a regular cast member of a TV show, and because of her talent, charisma, sophistication and grace, her portrayal of “Thelma” had a hugely positive impact not only on the Black community, but on everyone. She became the personification of beauty, intelligence, ambition and success for multiple generations of young women of every race and background.   

In addition to her iconic role in “Good Times”, our guest has appeared in numerous feature films and TV movies including “Land of the Free”, “Hidden Blessings”, “Caution: Heartache Ahead”, “No Regrets”, “The Big Shot”, “Once in a Valentine” and “A Christmas Blessing”. She’s also appeared in many TV shows like “The Love Boat”, “The Cosby Show”, “The Wayans Brothers”, “Black Jesus”, and most recently, she plays “Nee Nee Duncan” in the hit TV series “The Family Business” and “The Family Business: New Orleans”.

But beyond that iconic role, our guest has had a highly successful and diverse international career. On the big screen, she starred as “Val” in the movie version of “A Chorus Line”, and her other feature film credits include “1941”, “Tennessee Stallion”, “Deadly Twins”, “Getting Even”, “Freakshow”, “Ghost Writer”, “Last Chance Love”, “Circus Island”, “Deadly Closure”, and many more. 

On television, besides her iconic role in “Dallas”, she played “Heather Lawrence Kane” in “Somerset”, she was “Charlotte Hesser” in “One Life to Live”, she was “Miss Audrey” in “The Huggabug Club”, an award-winning children’s TV show which she also wrote and produced, and she’s appeared in dozens of classic TV series including “Marcus Welby”, “The FBI”, “Happy Days”, “Police Woman”, “Charlie’s Angels”, “Fantasy Island”, “The Dukes of Hazzard”, “Murder She Wrote”, “Burn Notice” and many more. 

And she’s also appeared in a number of great TV movies and miniseries including “The French Connection 3”, “Lucky Chances”, “Love at Sea”, “Murder at the Mansion”, and “Cloudy with a Chance of Christmas”.  And in addition to her acting career, our guest is a multi-gold and platinum recording artist and songwriter, with 10 gold hit singles including some of my favourites: “Manuel Goodbye”, “Little River”, “Playa Blanca”, “Honeymoon in Trinidad”, “Mi Amor”, “Summernight in Rome”, and “Jim, Jeff & Johnny”.  She’s performed at the most prestigious concert venues around the world. And if all of that weren’t enough, our guest is also a major force behind the scenes, writing, producing and directing films, TV series and music videos.  In addition to the immensely successful and influential children’s show “The Huggabug Club”, she coproduced feature films like “Ghost Writer”, “Club Fed”, “California Casanova” and “Circus Island”, which she also wrote and directed.  And together with her brilliant mother, the wonderful Ruth Landers, whom we lost last year, our guest created the Landers STAR Collection, an immensely popular women’s clothing and accessories company. And among the many accolades she’s received over the years, in 2012, our guest was given a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Florida Motion Picture & Television Association.

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Highly Acclaimed Actress, Singer & Dancer, Sandy Duncan

Today’s guest, Sandy Duncan, is a highly acclaimed and beloved actress, singer and dancer who has been dazzling audiences for 6 decades in every medium of the entertainment world. 

On the big screen, she starred in “Star Spangled Girl”, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. And that same year, she received another Golden Globe nomination for most promising female newcomer for her delightful performance in the Disney movie, “The Million Dollar Duck”. She also appeared in a number of other great movies like “The Cat From Outer Space” and “Never Again”, and she was unforgettable as “Pinocchio” in the wonderful 1976 TV movie, “Pinoccio” co-starring Danny Kaye and Flip Wilson. And of course, we all remember her stellar performance as “Missy Anne Reynolds” in the groundbreaking TV miniseries, “Roots”, for which she received an Emmy Award nomination for outstanding supporting actress. 

She starred in several TV sitcoms, starting with “Funny Face”, for which she received an Emmy Award nomination for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series. She then starred in “The Sandy Duncan Show”. And then, in 1987, she astonished the whole world by achieving something that many people thought was impossible: she took over the lead in Valerie Harper’s TV sitcom, “Valerie”, after Ms. Harper left the show, which was ultimately renamed “The Hogan Family”, and she actually made the show better, and kept it going successfully for a further four seasons, which is a truly remarkable accomplishment that no one else in this business could ever have done unless they had the immense popularity and likeability of our guest.  

She guest starred in many classic TV shows like “Bonanza”, “The Six Million Dollar Man”, “The Bionic Woman”, “Law & Order: SVU”, and she starred in one of my all-time favourite TV movies, “My Boyfriend’s Back” with Jill Eikenberry and Judith Light. She was also a regular on “Hollywood Squares” and numerous TV game shows, and she guest starred on every major variety show including “The Sammy Davis Jr. Show”, “The Jackie Gleason Show”, “The Sonny and Cher Show”, “The Flip Wilson Show”, “Laugh-In” and dozens more. And get this: in the late 70s, our guest received four consecutive nominations for a Photoplay Gold Medal Award for Favourite Variety Star.   

And on Broadway, our guest has had a stellar career, with THREE Tony Award nominations, for her performances in “Canterbury Tales”, “The Boy Friend”, and “Peter Pan”. She won a Drama Desk Award for her performance in “The Boy Friend”, and she received ANOTHER Drama Desk Award nomination for her work in “Peter Pan”. Her other Broadway performances include “My One and Only”, “Chicago” and “Finding Neverland”. She’s starred in numerous national tours of “Peter Pan”, “My One and Only” and “The King and I”. 

And off-Broadway, she won a Theatre World Award for her performance in “The Ceremony of Innocence”. She’s also starred in many theatrical productions including “No, No Nanette”, “Driving Miss Daisy”, “The Glass Menagerie” and many more. 

And if all of that weren’t enough, our guest is a recipient of the prestigious National Rehabilitation Hospital Victory Award, which is given to individuals who exhibit exceptional courage and strength in the face of adversity. And most recently, she received the Medal of Arts Award from her home state of Texas.
