David was a generous friend. This is a personal account of my interactions with him, our friendship, and his lasting impact on the digital humanities.
His new book, and largest project ever, is coming out soon from University of Minn. Press. It is called Cyberlibertarianism, and appears to be a comprehensive look at the mechanisms for consolidation of power within emerging digital spaces, with examples of companies asserting what they feel is their right to create online social spaces, while publicly expressing an intention to put guardrails on AI, but resisting regulation of any kind.
