University of Hawaii football head coach Timmy Chang was the guest on this week’s “Hawaii Football Final” as the Rainbow Warriors entered a bye week fresh off clinching bowl eligibility.

The Hawaii Sports 2Night production, hosted by Rob DeMello, premiered Sunday on the KHON+ app, with a television rebroadcast set for Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. on KHON2.

Chang joined the program a week after Hawaii’s 31-19 win at Colorado State, a road victory that lifted UH to 6–2 overall and 3–1 in the Mountain West.

In the episode, Chang reflected on inheriting the program during a mass roster exit that forced him to replace 53 players in his first year, and how in his fourth season the Warriors now find themselves postseason-bound.

The former standout QB for the Warriors discussed the evolution of his staff and roster, the locker room culture, and what it has taken to move closer re-establishing Hawaii football as a nationally relevant program.

The Rainbow Warriors defense anchored the 31-19 victory, holding the Rams to nearly 100 yards under their season average while totaling eight tackles for loss and six sacks. On offense, junior kicker Kansei Matsuzawa made program history by hitting his 21st consecutive field goal with former UH All-American and NFL veteran Jason Elam, the previous record-holder, in attendance.

Quarterback Micah Alejado threw three touchdown passes, including two to Jackson Harris, and running back Cam Barfield sealed the win late with a 35-yard touchdown burst.

Hawai‘i improved to 6–2 overall and 3–1 in the Mountain West, remaining in contention while locking in an automatic bowl berth for the first time since 2019.

Hawaii snapped an eight-game losing streak to longtime rival Utah State, earning a decisive 44-26 win that pushed the Warriors to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Mountain West.

Quarterback Micah Alejado, celebrating his 21st birthday, led the offensive charge with 413 passing yards and four total touchdowns, including three scoring strikes to Pofele Ashlock, who finished with seven catches for 117 yards.

On special teams, kicker Kansei Matsuzawa stayed perfect, going 3-for-3 on field goals and tying Jason Elam’s program record with 20 consecutive makes dating back to last season.

Defensively, Jamih Otis made key plays with five tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception to help seal the victory.

Hawaii’s offense scored on eight of 10 drives, including a 24-play, 12-minute march that highlighted a ball-control effort. While the Falcons struck for explosive gains, UH’s defense came up with timely stops, capped by Matagi Thompson’s first collegiate interception.

The win snapped a 14-game skid in nationally televised road contests and allowed the Rainbow Warriors to retain the Kuter Trophy.
