But to have a previous Iowa offensive coordinator do it, in this case Don Patterson, gives the evaluation far more credibility.
Patterson made his usual Monday appearance on the Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast and he had plenty of good things to say about Lester, whose offense is averaging 30.8 points per game this season.

It's always a pleasure to speak with Don Patterson about Hawkeye football, but especially after a victory.
That was the case on this Monday with Iowa having defeated Northwestern 40-14 this past Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
Patterson, a former Iowa assistant for 20 seasons under Hayden Fry, looks back at the win over Northwestern and forward to this coming Saturday's game against Wisconsin at Kinnick Stadium.
He also breaks down the situation at quarterback where Brendan Sullivan replaced Cade McNamara early in the second quarter against Northwestern and Sullivan would go on to play for the rest of the game.
In this podcast, Brion recaps the 1975 Iowa football season. The Hawks faced a tough schedule in the middle of the season, playing three straight ranked opponents (#12 Penn State, #3 USC and #1 Ohio State). They also had a few thrilling games that won or lost the game in the final minutes. They finished 3-8 with a very limited passing attack, which is actually worse than the last few seasons at Iowa.
