The news broke on Sunday that Kirk Ferentz is hiring Tim Lester as his new offensive coordinator, and it caused a mixed reaction.

Some fans were less than pleased with the hire since Lester had been fired as the Western Michigan head coach following the 2022 season, and because Syracuse struggled with Lester as its play caller for 19 games in the 2014 and and 2015 seasons, finishing just 5-14 in those games.

Former Iowa basketball star Adam Haluska also appears on the podcast to talk Iowa men's and women's hoops. His segment starts 15 minutes into the podcast.

With the news that Beth Goetz was officially named Iowa's athletic director, he also went back and looked at the past athletic directors, including the split role during Christine Grant's tenure leading the women's athletics program. Past directors include Alden Knipe, Nelson Kellogg, Howard Jones, Paul Belting, Edward Lauer, Ossie Solem, E. G. Schroeder, Paul Brechler, Forest Evashevski, Bump Elliott, Christine Grant, Bob Bowlsby and Gary Barta.

A few were written or directed by Quinn Early, and not surprisingly, there are a few books about Nile Kinnick. There are also books about Duke Slater, Connie Hawkins, Chuck Long, Bob Stoops, Chris Street, Ronnie Lester and even some less famous players.

Player profiles include Jerry Hilgenberg, who walked-on at Iowa in the early 1950's and had two sons that played at Iowa and in the NFL (Jay and Joel). Sadly he passed away last week.

With the news yesterday of Kadyn Proctor joining the Hawks, I also profile a big-time football recruit back in 1972, Butch Caldwell. He also had all the big schools after him, as he was a dual-threat QB that was desperately needed after Iowa's 1-10 season in 1971. He helped lead the Hawks to a huge upset at #11 Penn State in 1976.
