  • 56. "Ought not..to have suffered these things? - When suffering is simply part of our human experience

    Luke 24: 26

We hear the phrase, "Pain is mandatory, suffering is optional." The thing is, it doesn't always feel like we have a choice in our suffering. And whether you believe that you have a say in it or not, one thing is true. That this life, this mortal human life invoves suffering. It's part of the human experience and it's part of our discipleship to navigate through those dark, hard times.

Christ in His own and unique way, set the example of "how to suffer". In other words, what you do have control and choice when it seems as if others are "nailing you to the cross"....especially when it comes to navigating a separation and divorce.

Listen as I highlight three ways Christ navigated His own suffering and how you can do the same.

Will it lessen the pain and suffering? I believe it will.

  • 54. Divorce and Discipleship - Conversion in crisis

We hear that conversion is an ongoing process...but what does it take? And, how bad do we want to be being in the process of becoming as the Savior?

I learned something of conversion from the story of Peter denying Christ three times and the bitterness he must have felt from what he did. I also learned that even the Jesus was still learning line upon line and precept upon precept even in the Garden of Gethsemane. That even He was experiencing His own process of conversion. But does conversion always come in times of crisis? Probably not but I wonder if at those times when we are in crisis - like a separation and divorce - that the stakes are higher and it is at those times when we need to double down and make intentional, conscious choices of what direction we will walk and to whom we will ask for spiritual wisdom. In Peter's and Jesus's darkest moments (and isn't interesting that their lows were about the same time), they chose to do what they knew to be true and real and held firm to it.

We can do the same. We can choose discipleship even in our crisis and it seems like we're facing death and dispair. And God, in His great mercy will consecrate our efforts for our conversion. He will perfect our efforts, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant.

What is "differentation"? Jennifer Finlayson-Fife answers this question and why this is not just one of the greatest work in a relationship but throughout your life. And, believe it or not, pivotal in your separation and divorce.

One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is to be in a relationship with your OWN self. The self that understands why she seeks, craves, manipulates, and strategizes for validation. Then, to show grace for her and to partner with God and Christ to find who she is without the outside validation from our ex's.

Jennifer shares why learning to differentiate is so important and how this is tied direction to our relationship with God and how we see Them. She then talks about how differentiating and learning to be in integrity of who we divinely are is connected to forgiveness of self and other and how this faciliaties healing and a greater space for compassion, grace, and acceptance of others.

  • 52. Divorce and Discipleship - BE-ing a vessel for God

We are vessels….of many different shapes, size, color, and capacity. But we were all created from the same hands of the divine Potter and I know that he does not make any mistakes.
No matter where you are on your journey in divorce and discipleship, Christ knows you and your capacity to 🌸receive🌸 all of His good gifts.
“Wherefore, my beloved [sisters], pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he had bestowed upon all who are true followers of his son, Jesus Christ… That when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified, even as he is pure. Amen.” ~Moroni 7:48

  • 51. The wisdom of grief and loss in God's plan for you - A conversation with Alisha Coakley, podcaster, author, thriver, disciple.

    Meet Alisha.

    Podcaster.

    Author.

    Survivor.

    Thriver.

    Testifier.

    Disciple.

    Divine Daughter of God.

Alisha never imagined she would have to learn to grieve over a future she didn't anticipate. But (with some kicking and screaming) she found that grieving in the darkest days brought light in unexpected ways. As a Grief Facilitator, she learned how to be anchored in the wisdom of grief - as a tool and as a means of securing herself more firmly and devoutly in her discipleship of Christ. But it wasn't always easy, and through it all, she came to understand more fully her divinehood and God's supreme and unyielding love for her.

  • 50. How to love life no matter the circumstance - with Jordana Thiessen

Jordana came to realize a hard truth...as beautiful as the gospel is, it can be so easy to use it to beat yourself up. But that's not what Christ came down to do with His principles and doctrines. He specifically said, "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved" (John 3:17). So why do we weaponize principles like repentance and charity against ourselves and against others, and how can we more fully live into our divine potential and identity? Listen as Jordana and I discuss why this happens and what we can do to live a life leading with Grace.

A few weeks ago, I felt the spiritual urge to study the Doctrine on the Family and in doing so, I delved into The Proclamation on the family. I have to say that I don't think I ever looked deeply into and when I did, I found something so profound that it has changed and is changing my perception on families and where God is in all of it. Literally, He is IN that proclamation.
