  • 72. Day 4 of the 12 days of Christmas challenge - Humble Pie

Seriously.....who LOVES to apologize to their kid?

    (crickets....LOL!)

That's what came up for me from God.

Modeling apology and remorse can be so dang hard when it comes to our kiddos. I find that that having their respect is super important to me but not at the expense of my pride.

God has given me so many opportunities to be "wrong" and to do it "wrong" - not so that He can say "I said so" but that I can practice humility and to realize that I don't always know what is best practices as a mom and caregiver. That's why we have to Atonement of Jesus Christ. That's why He's there to save you and me from ourselves.

Don't give up. Don't give into self-loathing. With humility comes home and faith that you aren't a lost sheep forever.

Let God prevail in YOUR life and in the lives your loved ones.

    Love, Hyo

    Day 3 - Understanding

How often do you and I make "assumptions" based on little to no information about another "someone"? (I'm totally raising my hand here). We all do. It's such a human thing to do but we're trying not to be human, right? We want to stretch ourselves towards the Divine that is within us and that is calling to us to be "higher and holier" in our thoughts, feelings, and behavior.

  • 70. Day 2 of the 12 days of Christmas challenge - Forgiveness

    Day 2 - Forgiveness

Sometimes it's so much harder to forgive yourself than it is to forgive others. Seriously, why is that? I know that in episode 65, with Bishop Webb, he talks about the importance of forgiving ourselves for what we did and didn't know in our past.

  • 69. Day 1 of the 12 days of Christmas challenge - Grace

    Day 1 - Grace

So many times has God shown me grace through my separation. And I had such a hard time believing that I deserved it. How is that even possible? And you're right, it's the Atonement of Jesus Christ that makes it possible but when you're face with your faults and weaknesses, it can be hard to believe that you deserve such a gift.

It takes bravery to face our faults and face God with them with a belief that He still loves you so much!

  • 66. The Forgiveness Series with Sara Passey, Counselor - Why this work matters to you

We had an amazing conversation about the following:

From a clinical and counseling perspective, what is forgiveness and how would you define it?

How does a need for this practice (and the client not recognizing it) show up mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually?

What are the "hang-ups" and resistance to putting this principle into practice?..and what does that look like? - shifts in beliefs and thinking? - shifts in emotional resilience? - shifts in relationships?

What isn't forgiveness? - a conversation on boundaries?Personal experience with this principle - what was easy and why? - what was difficult and why? How did you overcome this?

  • 65. The Forgiveness Series with Ryan Webb on Discipleship & Forgiveness

A candid conversation with Bishop Ryan Webb - a former seminary teacher, institute instructor, and now working in the Raleigh North Carolina Temple.

We discuss what the schriptures say about forgiveness and what that even mean in everyday life.

    What is forgiveness?

Is it simply saying “Im sorry” or, “you’re forgiven”? - how does Christ teach forgiveness in the scriptures. - how does He emulate this commandment.

    Why does it matter?

What isn’t forgiveness?  Example…I can’t forgive him because if I do then that means [fill in the blank].

What keeps us from forgiving and/or asking for forgiveness?

Is there a relationship between being willing to see where we lack and asking for forgiveness and seeking where others lack and gifting forgiveness to others?  If so, why is that?

In your experience as a seminary teacher, institute teacher, bishop, and now working for the temple,  has your understanding of forgiveness changed and evolved?  Why or why not?

Thank you for stopping by. Love, Hyo

  • 64. The Forgiveness Series with Dr. Loren Toussaint on The Psychology of Forgivness

This podcast will cover these questions:

How did you come to be a "Forgiveness Expert"?

How does social science define "forgiveness"?

    Why does forgiveness matter?

What keeps us from gifting forgiveness?

    Trauma & forgiveness

    Divorce & forgiveness

Case Study: I have tried forgiving my ex for our past many years together and the hurt he caused me and the kids, but he keeps creating new wounds, even though we are divorced and I try and keep my distance. I keep hearing worse and worse things he's doing to the kids. I pray for the Lord's guidance and direction and for angels to surround the kids and me, but I feel pressured by other members and leaders to keep trying to forgive. I'm not perfect either, but mine are minor things vs. his being traumatic and damaging. What kind of a forgiveness timeline does the Lord give us for those who cause trauma to us (parents, spouses, etc.)?  What does forgiveness look like to a continuous repeat offender that we try to keep our distance from, as much as possible? Steps towards forgiveness?  How can others learn more about your work?

  • 63. Shadow Work and Navigating Shame

I've always said that we are all "light and shadow" but I never realized the context of this as it related to trauma. Wow! We all have both sides of ourselves, but the shadow side, the unconscious, is in the driver's seat. How much of it is in the driver's seat? 96%! So how do we bring this to our awareness, our consciousness? The simple answer? Shame. But that doesn't mean it'll be easy.

Shame, surprisingly, is an evolution design. We are wired for it. There is purpose and value for shame in our lives and it has to do with our basic need for survival.

Listen to this episode to find out more and how you can begin to "befriend" shame and make it one of your greatest tools for connection and belonging.
