Today's episode is a special episode that is not only emotional, but it is a path that is inevitable for all of us. At some point, we will experience both the loss of a loved one and we will transition to a spiritual realm. But, before the transition, our goal is to provide a full level of support to the individual which entails physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual support.
What is a holistic approach as it relates to death and dying?
It involves recognition that the needs of a dying person go beyond just the clinical and physical but the spiritual aspect of the individual's meaning and purpose of life as well as forgiveness, reflection and acceptance.
It also provides compassion, love, and care to the individual with support from the healthcare staff, family and friends.
During this process family members, friends, and staff may find it difficult to maintain their own self-care, so staying connected for support is important for them as well in addition to the dying individual.
Death is never an easy process, but as each day passes we learn to cope and cherish the memories with the Hope and belief that our loved ones are in a place of peace and no longer suffering.
