At the HIMSS conference, I had a chance to interview Pouria Sanae, Co-founder and CEO at ixlayer, to learn about their solution to the problem of at home lab testing.  ixlayer provides a white labeled at home lab testing solution for provider organizations, biopharma, governments, employers, and population health programs.  Sanae shared with us how the challenge of lab testing in the home has been a problem for a long time and how much work it took for ixlayer to be able to scale their testing infrastructure to work across all 50 states.  Plus, they had to make sure the their solution dealt with the complexities of collecting and delivering the lab results where they needed to go.

After understanding the importance of clean, usable data, the next key is to learn about data quality and how we solve the problem of garbage in leads to garbage out.  For this, I chatted with Mike Noshay, Founder and Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer at Verinovum, who shared about why data is so important and what the ramifications are of poor quality data in healthcare.  

Noshay also shared why it's so difficult to get the data right in healthcare and then he dove into why a lot of the really great things on the horizon from tech companies in healthcare aren't widely implemented yet.  He shares why we haven't seen the benefits of those promising projects.  However, he also shares what can happen when a healthcare organization gets their data strategy right.

While at the HIMSS 2022 conference, I sat down with Bob Rogers, AI Expert in Residence Center for Digital Health Innovation at UCSF, and Sri Ambati, CEO & Co-Founder at H2O.ai, to learn about a really interesting project that Rogers was working on at UCSF.  When he started the project, he asked a number of experts about how to solve the problem and they said that it wasn’t possible.  Rogers turned to H2O.ai and their Document.ai solution to solve the problem.

The shift to work-from home and COVID disruptions forced a range of industries to deploy next-gen technologies at an accelerated rate without a commensurate increase in spending. While many are still calling to #axthefax, the reality is that fax is here to stay in healthcare for the foreseeable future.  If there was a better solution, we'd have moved there already.  However, fax is the most interoperable part of healthcare and healthcare organizations send and receive thousands of faxes every day.  

What does need to disappear is legacy fax infrastructure and poorly implemented and maintained digital fax that is costing healthcare organizations money and putting patients at risk.  While at the ViVE conference, I sat down with Barry Clark, President at WestFax, to discuss this and to learn about the launch of the new WestFax Comprehend product.

While the EHR has solved many problems (remember doctors' handwriting?), healthcare still faces the ongoing challenge posed by paper and manual processes.  This is what Stephanie Lahr, M.D., CHCIO, CIO and CMIO at Monument Health, and her team faced.  Thousands of faxes were still being sorted manually which took up too much of her staff's precious time.  To address this problem she turned to Sudish Mogli, Chief Technology Officer at Healthcare Triangle, and his team to leverage their automation to save time and reduce the friction associated with these manual processes.
