HEAR Journaling - Exodus 24
Highlight – Exodus 24:9-11 New Living Translation
9 Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain. 10 There they saw the God of Israel. Under his feet there seemed to be a surface of brilliant blue lapis lazuli, as clear as the sky itself.11 And though these nobles of Israel gazed upon God, he did not destroy them. In fact, they ate a covenant meal, eating and drinking in his presence!
Exodus 24:9-11 New King James Version
9 Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, 10 and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very[b] heavens in its clarity. 11 But on the nobles of the children of Israel He did not [c]lay His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and drank.
Explain – Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain and saw God for themselves standing on a pavement of brilliant sapphire stone. They had a covenant meal there before God.
Apply – This is curious that there were seventy-three elders present with Moses. Each of them saw God for themselves for the duration of the meal, but later these same people would defy God after Moses was gone from them for 40 days. They urged Aaron to build a golden calf to worship (Exodus Chapter 32). It is too easy to fall away from our Lord God. We must be vigilant our relationship with Him.
Exodus 32:1 ESV The Gold Calf 1When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.”
Hebrews 10:23 ESV 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
1 Samuel 26:23 ESV 23 The Lord rewards every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness, for the Lord gave you into my hand today, and I would not put out my hand against the Lord's anointed.
1 Corinthians 10:12-13 ESV 12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV 6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Luke 16:10 ESV 10 “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
Respond – Lord, thank You for Your love, mercy, and grace. I strive to follow You obediently and faithfully in all things. Help me remain steadfast in my relationship with You. I pray for any that do not know You, Lord. Amen.
