HEAR Journaling - Exodus 1
Highlight – Exodus 1:8-10, 15-17 New living Translation
8 Eventually, a new king came to power in Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph or what he had done. 9 He said to his people, “Look, the people of Israel now outnumber us and are stronger than we are. 10 We must make a plan to keep them from growing even more. If we don’t, and if war breaks out, they will join our enemies and fight against us. Then they will escape from the country.[b]”
…15 Then Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, gave this order to the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah: 16 “When you help the Hebrew women as they give birth, watch as they deliver.[c] If the baby is a boy, kill him; if it is a girl, let her live.”17 But because the midwives feared God, they refused to obey the king’s orders. They allowed the boys to live, too.
Explain – The Israelites didn’t become slaves as a result of being conquered, rather they came to Egypt because of the famine and was welcomed because God used Joseph for Egypt to prepare for the famine, to provide for God’s people. Over time the Israelites’ population grew to the point that the Egyptians feared that they would be overthrown. The new Pharos’s solution was to kill be sons of the people of Israel. God’s blessings for the Israelites continued including the midwives that had large families.
Apply - In these modern times we fear what strange new decrees that our own Godless governments may impose. We need not fear, however, as God is always working. God’s plan is beyond any mortal interference. We can live at peace in Him through any adversity.

1 Peter 5:8 ESV Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Philippians 4:12-13 ESV I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
James 1:12 ESV Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
Respond – Lord, thank You for Your peace that passes my understanding, but is ever available to me. Help me Lord to seek You first in all circumstances. I know that I will remain at peace as long as I abide in You as You abide in me as I follow You faithfully and obediently. I pray for all that do not know You, that they will seek and find You. Amen.
