  • 112: Supporting People Who Are Suicidal, Losing A Brother & Overcoming Alcohol Addiction w/ Kasey Taylor

Kasey Taylor is an art consultant and founder/ president of the Scooty Fund, a non-profit organization for Mental Health. We chat about the death of her brother Will, who passed away by suicide and her challenges of losing a brother so young. She openly chats about her unsupportive coping mechanism and how she got to her current mental state. There's a big importance in showing up authentically and being able to express your true mental state. Emotions are part of life and we need them and we can all connect with our pain.  A lot of people don’t talk about suicide, and they don’t have anyone to talk to about it. No man is an island, everyone needs help. When supporting someone who is suicidal asking questions, non-judgmentally, can be very beneficial + oftentimes, listening is enough. Remember that everything is from someone’s perspective and to continue to connect with people regularly on a deeper level.  Practice things every day that brings you joy and makes you feel healthy, within your body and your mind. Small changes can make the biggest impact. Kasey is currently in Grad school to become a therapist and is going to continue to help people with their mental health!

    Golden Nuggets From This Episode:

✨It’s important to connect on our pain and allow others to help us hold our pain and give us support during those times.

✨Just be there for the person through their hard times can be so healing and helpful.

✨Alcohol provides only temporary relief from self-pressure, sadness, and grief.

✨One of the keys to a healthier coping mechanism is changing how you perceive yourself in the world. Changing how you think about yourself.

✨When you feel extreme emotions, you can cope through creating.

✨When a friend is sharing something he’s at, first validate what he feels and show empathy.

✨All of us wanted to be heard.

    They also talked about:

00:19 Starting points with the Scooty Fund

03:51 The objectives/goals of the Scooty Fund

    07:42   Talking about committing suicide

09:09   Kasey’s feelings about the statement: “Suicide is being so selfish”

13:14   How she helps people uncover their truth on where they at mentally

16:26   Connecting to people with their pain

17:01   Her relationship with the alcohol

21:16   Her relationship with the alcohol after Will (her brother) died

    26:16  Treatments she took

27:54  Her recommendations of some of her ways of healthier coping mechanism

32:16  Her answer to “How not to upset your friend if they tell you where they at telling them: “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

36:14  If your friend is sharing something, how not fix them?

41:06  Is it okay to ask questions like “Are you suicidal?”

  • 108: Prioritize Joy w/ Lexy Davis

Joy is something a lot of us put on the back burner, but WHY?! It's funny we do all the things that we think will bring us joy, instead of remembering that we can experience joy daily. We can create small moments of joy every day. Noticing when we have the thoughts of guilts come up or the 100s of things on our to-do list and work so that we don't allow ourselves to experience bliss. You are empowered to make these choices in your life! Lastly, let's remember to celebrate daily - I challenge you every day this week at the beginning or end of each day to list 5 things you're celebrating yourself for! I hope you nurture your bliss and joy this week (+ always)!!! Please share your moment of joy with me this week by tagging me on insta at heartsnuggles or alivetoenjoy + tag me so I can celebrate with you!!

    Golden Nuggets From This Episode:

✨Sprinkle in little pieces of joy throughout the day that only takes 30 seconds or a few minutes

✨So often we let guilt drive the ship, instead of remembering we have the power to not choose those thoughts

✨Asking yourself what would feel good right now?

  • 107: Being Open-Minded + Utilizing Your Passions w/ Chad Berry

Chad Berry is an incredible friend I met while traveling + he shares the journey of his work, relationships, and sexuality. He started a brand strategy creative agency where he helps people with creating and developing their websites, brand strategy + photography. He is living in Sydney, but from Arizona. He started a passion project and it took him a while to validate his gifts, but being in quarantine made him realize it’s a huge part of his life. We go into self-reflection, expanding the depths of our conversations + communication + exploring new parts of ourselves. Acceptance is something we weren’t raised with and now we’re learning how to. We explore the quote "Being a jack of all trades and the master of none." This was a childhood programming he received + how it held him back, but he learned the full saying ends with "oftentimes better than a master of one."!!! As he stepped into his business he began getting a lot of messages from friends looking to create something with their passion projects. Then he was able to support them to step into their truth and watching it grow bigger than they imagined. Being a late bloomer at exploring different parts of ourselves, including our sexuality. I share how to find relationships with depth whilst traveling so much + moving a lot. We hope you enjoy this episode and please leave a 5 star review if you're enjoying it :)
