The Islanders went toe-to-toe with the best team in the NHL, the Colorado Avalanche, but fell 5-3. The Isles got strong play from Ilya Sorokin and the new line of Kyle Palmieri, JG Pageau and Zach Parise, but it just wasn't enough.

A controversial overturned goal that would have given the Isles a 4-3 lead late in the third period didn't help the team's chances and seemed to take some of the momentum away from them.
