Today 03/04 we spent time with Dr. Tescarollo from Purdue University Fort Wayne to share his artistic journey from Brazil to the United States and beyond.

"Since his debut with the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP), Hamilton Tescarollo has performed both as a solo and collaborative pianist in the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America. Recent concert engagements have taken him to venues such as Carnegie Hall’s Isaac Stern Auditorium, Steinway Hall (New York), and Salle Gaveau (Paris). Also an active recording artist, he has several published CDs to his credit. Tescarollo serves as Professor of Music and Director of Keyboard Studies at Purdue University Fort Wayne, where he teaches piano and piano-related courses and coordinates the keyboard area. In the summers, he is on the piano faculty at Interlochen Arts Camp. He also is the founder and director of the Gene Marcus Piano Competition and the Gene Marcus Piano Camp Festival. A dedicated teacher, he was named the Indiana Music Teachers Association “Teacher of the Year.” He also is a frequent master class presenter and competition adjudicator.
Dr. Tescarollo holds Piano Performance degrees from Arizona State University (D.M.A. and M.M.), Faculdade Santa Marcelina (B.M.), and Escola Municipal de Música de São Paulo (Diploma). His main teachers were Gilberto Tinetti and Caio Pagano." (Tescarollo, H., 2024)

Today, (02/22) we had a conversation with Maestro Marshall White. A kind and wise person and artist that loves movies and playing billiards.

Marshall A. White is the esteemed Founder and CEO of Unity Performing Arts
Foundation in Fort Wayne, IN, and serves as the Director and Life Coach for the Voices
of Unity Youth Choir. Established in July 2000, UNITY is dedicated to nurturing young
individuals in character, artistry, and leadership through various performing arts,
including choral music, dance, drama, and more. Under White's guidance, the Voices of
Unity Youth Choir has achieved significant acclaim, including winning the World Grand
Champion title at the 6th World Choir Games in Shaoxing, China, in 2010 and
embarking on a successful four-country European tour in 2016 that included a special
performance at the Vatican. White's leadership has also seen the choir perform
alongside notable artists and at prestigious events, further solidifying its reputation on
both national and international stages. His educational background includes electronic
technology and vocal and music theory studies at Indiana University-Purdue University
Fort Wayne and direct training under the late jazz pianist Willie Pickens at the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago. White's visionary leadership has been recognized with numerous awards, and he is a family man, married to Cynthia White since 1994, with three children and a stepson. (White, M., 2024)

Lindsay Platt is the Director of Development for the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir. She is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and a graduate of Butler University, where she received a degree in Arts Administration and studied voice with Dr. Steven Rickards. Her love of music began at age five when she persistently asked her parents for a violin. Since that time, Mrs. Platt has interwoven her love of music with the desire to find ways to provide musical experiences for all.

Mrs. Platt has worked for nonprofits and in music throughout her career, with positions in fundraising, teaching, administration, and programming. She most recently was the Associate Director of Development and Education at Heartland Sings. Mrs. Platt is a regular performer, having performed with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, The Cleveland Orchestra’s Blossom Festival Chorus, and Heartland Sings. Since 2004, Mrs. Platt has performed in a variety of recitals in Indianapolis, Cleveland, Okinawa, Chicago, Louisville, and Fort Wayne. In 2019 she attended the Bodymind and Voice Course at Saint John's University and became a member of The VoiceCare Network. She currently studies voice with Lisa Gerstenkorn.

 Mrs. Platt is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Sigma Alpha Iota, and the Music Teachers National Association.

Mrs. Platt has been married to her college sweetheart, Joseph Platt, since 2007. Together, they enjoy making music, cooking, reading, traveling, and time with their dog, Fenley.  (Platt, L. 2024)

"Josiah Lund is a Pianist and Teacher with a passion for sharing the expressive beauty of music.  Josiah Graduated in 2022 with a Bachelors in Music in Piano Performance from Purdue Fort Wayne, where he won the Purdue Fort Wayne Concerto and Aria Competition in 2018, 2019, and 2021.  Throughout his ongoing pursuit of music, Josiah has been fortunate enough to take part in master classes with Nikolai Demidenko, Stewart Goodyear, Karen Taylor, and Liu Liu, among others.  Josiah is currently working for Heartland Sings as an Education Associate and Staff Pianist and fostering a growing Piano Studio.." Today (11/15) talked about the artist going away from the land we grow up and the moments the international experience brings through discipline and love for music. Jude Balthazar is the tenor Principal Teaching Artist at Heartland Sings and a lover of the movies!

"Jude Balthazar is a Haitian tenor and is completing his DMA degree in voice and opera performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jude made his professional debut with Cedar Rapids Opera as a Young Artist performer for the 2022 season. His academic vocal training started in fall 2013 at The University of Trinidad and Tobago, Port of Spain. Three years later, Jude transferred to Oklahoma Baptist University where he studied with Dr. Louima Lilite and completed his Bachelor of Music Performance in spring 2019. Jude did his masters studies in vocal performance at the University of Arkansas with Dr. Moon Sook Park. He was casted as Rinuccio in “Gianni Schicchi” with UA Opera Theater in early spring 2020. He was selected to perform Reverend Danforth in “The Crucible” and Normanno in “Lucia di Lammermoor” with Opera in the Ozarks for the summer of 2020. Jude performed the role of Anthony in “Sweeney Todd” with University Opera at UW-Madison in spring 2022, and Richard in “Ruddigore” with Madison Savoyards Ltd in the summer that followed. He was on stage as Benvolio in the production “Roméo et Juliette” with Florentine Opera in October of 2022. Jude is excited to join the Heartland Sings crew, and eager to reach out to Fort Wayne’s community via music." (Balthazar, J. 2023)

Today (11/02) we had a conversation with Mary Snow, soprano member of the big choir and treasurer with the Board of Directors at Heartland Sings.

"Mary Snow is a native of Fort Wayne.  She graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School and Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana majoring in Management with an Accounting option.  Mary was a Field Examiner for the Indiana State Board of Accounts auditing local governmental agencies.  She retired in 2022 after 38 years.  Mary has been with Heartland Sings since its inception and also its predecessor, Opus 18, as a soprano and now performs in the alto section of Heartland as a part time vocal artist.  Mary is the Treasurer for Heartland Sings offering oversight of the day to day financial operations.  Mary enjoys running, exercising, walking Wrigley the dog and hopes to hop on the bicycle more.  She enjoys Fort Wayne Philharmonic and Fort Wayne Children’s Choir concerts with her husband, Rob, and visiting her daughter, Cecelia, in Philadelphia.  Mary is also a member of the Philharmonic Chorus and sings and plays handbells at Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she has been a lifetime member. Today (10/24) we have a conversation with Rachel Colman about resilience and her artistic journey.
"Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Rachael Colman serves as a vocalist in the United States Air Force. Rachael earned a B.M. in Voice from Baylor University and an M.M. in Opera from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She then traveled the country for several years as a freelance chorister, performing with such acclaimed choral ensembles as the Santa Fe Desert Chorale (Santa Fe, NM), the Handel and Haydn Society (Boston, MA), and True Concord (Tucson, AZ). She was a founding member of Chorosynthesis (Seattle, WA), a choir dedicated to advocating for social justice through the performance of new music. She can be heard on Chorosynthesis’s first CD recording, Empowering Silenced Voices. Rachael’s performances have taken her to Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City, Symphony Hall in Boston, Helzburg Hall in Kansas City, and the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, and in 2017 she was selected from a worldwide pool of applicants to participate in the Tallis Scholars Workshop at Carnegie Hall.  Now, 5 years into her military career, Rachael has had the honor of performing for some of the country's best-loved professional sports teams including the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, and the Baltimore Ravens. In 2021, she deployed to the Middle East, bringing the first live performances back to our overseas troops since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and fostering international cooperation through music. She tours with the USAF Heritage of America Band, regularly performing as a lead singer for their rock band, big band jazz ensemble, and concert wind ensemble, reaching more than 1 million people annually. When she isn't performing, she serves as a Resilience Training Assistant for the Air Force, equipping the country's newest Airmen with crucial life skills that promote the mastery of the mind and body."
