Today (08/16) we talked with Andrea Salazar, doctoral student in voice performance and master's program of arts administration at the University of Kentucky as well as part time teaching artist at Heartland Sings, creator of the Canto de Corazón summer program with the YMCA - Renaissance Pointe.

Ecuadorian Soprano, Andrea Salazar has participated in multiple productions with the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado. She holds a B.S. in Vocal Performance from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, and  M. M in Vocal Performance from the University of Kentucky. Mrs. Salazar-Pastor is pursuing her Doctoral Degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Kentucky under the guidance of Dr. Everett McCorvey as well as the Master in Arts Administration.

Today (07/20) we talked with David Snyder, member of the board of Trustees at Heartland Sings and sales engineer at Sweetwater about arts being an essential aspect of life as water.

David Snyder ran his own business, Sonic Landscape Music, in Maplewood, New Jersey for 30 years. Freelance Composer, Arranger & Conductor, active in many areas of the business, from Film & Television to Musical Theatre, Recording and Live Performance.

"I got my start in the Los Angeles area, where I performed as a pianist/vocalist and produced CD projects, film scores, and worked with many celebrity clients and corporations. In 2003, I moved to the NYC area, and since then have been pursuing orchestrating and conducting opportunities for symphonic productions, such as HERE TO STAY: THE GERSWIN EXPERIENCE, as well as Broadway and regional theatrical productions. My own original musical, MR. CONFIDENTIAL, with book and lyrics by Samuel Bernstein, will have its first full-scale professional production in 2023. I also continue to work on recording projects for various composers and performers, such as MUSIC & LYRICS by CHARLES BLOOM: IN HERE, where I orchestrated and conducted 14 of Charles' songs for artists such as Christine Ebersole, Howard McGillin and Aaron Lazar with 18 musicians, recorded live in the studio. I love the challenge and excitement of producing top-level product with the best talent, on a controlled budget, and proving that live music, with real people, is not only the best choice, it is affordable as wel". Today, 07/27/2023 we interview Melisa McCann from the SUNSET MUSICA and the YMCA Renaissance Pointe to talk about her experience in the performance venue and on her several board of trustees as an advocate of the arts.

Melisa McCann, originally from Munster, IN- Received a BA in Musical
Theatre Performance from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. As a
professional musician, Melisa has performed in numerous musical
ensembles, choruses, theatrical venues, choirs, and recording projects
in New York City and Chicago and has been a proud member The FW
Philharmonic Chorus. In 2016 she launched her Latin Dance Band
“Melisa’s Latin Beat” that has been recently featured performing at The
Landing, The Embassy Theatre, The Club Room at the Clyde, Fort
Wayne Festival Latino at Headwaters Park, The Tincaps, The Grand
Wayne Center, and at various community events. In April 2018 she was
named one of Fort Wayne Business Weekly’s 40 Under 40 Award
winners and has received various community engagement awards for
her social service. She is a proud member of the Fort Wayne Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the Board of Trustees for the
Fort Wayne Ballet, Heartland Sings, and The Honeywell Foundation.
She currently holds the position of Community Outreach Director at the
Renaissance Pointe YMCA where she serves in creating YMCA Arts
Programming, event planning, and establishing community
relationships over the past 9 years.

Today we talked with Natalie Young, the soprano principal vocal artist (07/07) about the importance of the arts.

Dazzling audiences with her light lyric coloratura voice, soprano Natalie Young has made her mark performing a wide variety of styles from opera to pop.
As an oratorio soloist, Ms. Young’s credits include: Mass in Blue (Todd), Stabat Mater
(Pergolesi), Song of the Shulamite (McCullough), Requiem (Mozart), Messiah (Handel),
Requiem (Brahms), Dixit Dominus (Handel), Messe Basse (Fauré), in addition to Bach
cantatas 22, 36, 140, and 211.
She also maintains a busy recital and concert schedule and most recently sang as a guest soloist with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Players Association, Purdue University - Fort Wayne, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and various concert series' in the Fort Wayne area. Her concerts often feature her command of pop, country, jazz, and musical theatre styles. She was a finalist for the American Prize - Women in Opera Professional Division in 2017 and is the two-time St. Louis Chapter Winner of the National Society of Arts and Letters Dorothy Lincoln-Smith Vocal Competition. She was also selected as a semi-finalist for both
the MIOpera Vocal Competition in 2020 and the Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition in 2017. Before she was singing professionally, Ms. Young was awarded the Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2010.
A member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Ms. Young maintains an
active voice studio at Heartland Sings and regularly adjudicates competitions, serves as a clinician, and teaches workshops focusing on varying aspects of vocal performance.
Natalie is currently the Associate Artistic Director and Principal Vocal Artist at Heartland Sings where she periodically serves as a conductor. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Voice Performance from Belmont University and a Master of Music Degree in Voice Performance from the University of Missouri - Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance.  NATS - Natalie Young

Today we talked with Kim Nazarian from the New York Voices, Grammy Award Jazz Ensemble about several aspects of her life and the concert we offered a few weeks (06/24) ago at the Heartland Sings Vocal Arts Conference.

Kim Nazarian is a world renowned, Grammy nominated jazz performing and recording artist, educator and clinician. Besides her work as a sought-after solo vocalist, she has been performing all over the world with the vocal group, “New York Voices“ (NYV), for more than 35 years. She is a jazz voice teacher for Vocal Jazz Majors at both Ithaca College and SUNY Fredonia. She also shares her perspectives on music and life as a musician, teaching private students in her own personal studio as well as offering clinics, workshops, and masterclasses, adjudicating festivals, participating in jazz camps and guest conducting for singers on all levels in the US and abroad. Heartland Sings, Inc. is a nonprofit vocal music production company based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Founded in 1997 by Maestro Robert Nance, Heartland Sings creates a variety of vocal music productions and educational outreach programs.

I have devoted most of my professional career to the creative process as an artist, a performer, a teacher, a spiritual leader, an arts advocate, and an entrepreneur.
