Kate created a 6 week camp and triathlon encouraged youth to explore a new sport
More from Kate:
I have been a Girl Scout for 11 years, starting when I was five. Now at sixteen, I am a student-athlete who participates in Civil Air Patrol as squadron First Sergeant, and a Girl Scout Senior who volunteers with younger troops. As a military child, I have had many opportunities in different scouting councils such as the Las Vegas and Nation's Capital councils. This military life has allowed me to travel and gain knowledge from new experiences. I am working to complete high school with high academic standing with the goal of attending Oregon State University for Marine Biology. I also look to participate in ROTC during college and commission as a pilot for the United States Air Force.
Project summary: My project was created to introduce young girls to a new life-sustainable sport and how to care for their bodies. I worked with experts in athletics, nutrition, and physical fitness to create a mother-daughter 6 week triathlon camp. I joined with the Osan Fitness Center to add a youth triathlon to the summer series. This attracted families from Osan Air Base, Camp Humphreys Garrison, and Seoul. The 6 week camp and triathlon encouraged youth to explore a new sport, look at nutrition in a healthy way, and to seek ways to be active year round.

Hailey created a video to encourage girls to join troop 6000 using actual girls from the troop.
More about Hailey:
My name is Hailey, and I have been a girl scout for eight years. I started as a second-year junior and bridged last year as an ambassador into adulthood. Throughout my eight years of scouting, I have created lifelong friends, learned the importance of advocacy, participated in countless take-action projects, and tried to make the world a better place. I am also a founding member of Troop 6000, the first Girl Scout troop designed for women and girls living in the New York City shelter system. My mother came up with the idea of starting the troop back in 2017 when we were living in the shelter ourselves. I am currently a first-year at St.John's University and am majoring in business in hopes of one day starting my own.

Madison advocated for Black adolescent mental health.
More about Madison:
Madison Garrett is a 17-year old changemaker and Ambassador Girl Scout of Troop 2261. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, Madison began Girl Scouts at age 8 in Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Since the first time she recited the Girl Scout Promise, Madison passionately lives out the mission of Girl Scouts. Receiving her Silver Award for raising awareness for environmental crises and earning her Gold Award for advocating for Black adolescent mental health, Madison aspires to make a difference any way she can.
For her Girl Scout Gold Award, Madison brought attention to the often-unknown issue of the rising suicide rate of Black children. Advocating for the cause in numerous ways, including speaking about self-esteem to the little Black girls of her Girl Scout Troop 2261, writing articles for The New York Beacon about Black mental health, and hosting a mental health seminar for all ages, Madison became determined to destigmatize the taboo of mental health within the Black community. As 2021 Girl Scout Future Woman of Distinction, she continues to spread her message, highlighting the importance of Black mental health on television, in publications, or simply speaking to her sister Scouts.
Entering Columbia University in the fall, Madison can't wait to continuously use her voice to raise awareness for disregarded and overlooked issues-including the matter of Black mental health and the increasing suicide rate of Black children.

Katie created a video to show how easy it is to create a composting plan at home.
From Katie:
I was a Girl Scout for 13 years (Kindergarten-12th grade) with Troop 29334 in the Greater Atlanta area. While with my troop, I earned my Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards along with other Community Service and Service to Girl Scout pins. Some of my favorite memories are from campouts, father-daughter dances, and world thinking days. In high school, I participated in color guard, worked at an ice cream store, and served on my youth group's leadership board. In college, I now belong to the Society of Women Engineers and Rescue Paws UGA. Currently, I am a freshman at the University of Georgia working towards my degree in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Geology. My goal is to eventually consult or go into the Army Corps of Engineers.
