In this teaching, we take a look at John 5, and we see Yeshua healing the blind and the lame. What we will see is that even though Yeshua was healing the blind and the lame in a literal way, on a deeper level, the blind and the lame was referring to the spiritual condition of the exiles of Israel. The setting in this story is this: Yeshua is in Jerusalem by the sheep market in Jerusalem. The nation of Israel is likened unto sheep. There is a “great multitude” of sick people. Great Multitude is a reference to the exiles of Ephraim, scattered to the nations of the world (Genesis 48: 19). There in Jerusalem they were by a pool which is called is Bethesda, which means “house of mercy”. The torah and the prophets tell us that when the exiles are gathered from the nations of the world where they have been scattered, that it will be an act of mercy that God bestows upon them to gather them. Yeshua says to the lame man at the pool of Bethesda, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” Rising is a term that means to be awakened out of your spiritual slumber. In healing the blind, the lame, the deaf, and the lepers in a literal way, and the Good News was being preached to the poor, Yeshua was also making prophetic declaration at the same time: because blind, lame, dead, poor, leprous, are all terms to describe the spiritual status of the exiles of Israel for breaking the covenant at Mt Sinai. In John 9, Yeshua heals a blind man. This is a picture of the eyes of the nation of Israel (Northern kingdom of 10 tribes being opened). Yeshua spoke these words: Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.” John 9:39. What is the connection between the miraculous catch of fish (from John 21) and the scattered exiles of Israel? The exiles of Israel are likened unto fish. Yeshua’s ministry is to gather the exiles of Israel. The New Testament teaches us about the role of the Messiah to gather the exiles of Israel in a detailed explanation for how it is going to happen. We take a look at the story of the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5: 25-34) who had suffered with this for more than 12 years. In Yeshua’s earthly ministry, the things that we read about him in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, while these are literal events, at the same time, they are prophetically foreshadowing his role to gather and unite the 12 tribes of Israel. He died to make two sheepfolds become one (John 10: 16-17). We are now going to look at John 11 at the account of the resurrection of Lazarus. We will be going through the chapter and look at key phrases and biblically define them. What we will see is that Lazarus is a prophetic picture of the exiles of Israel. The resurrection of Lazarus represents the gathering of the exiles of Israel.

How is Lazarus connected to the exiles of Israel? To answer this question, Eddie takes a look at what the name Lazarus means: from Strongs #2976, the name Lazarus means:

“whom God helps”. Another name connected to Lazarus is Eleazar, (1 Chronicles 6: 3), and from Strongs # 499, this name means “God has helped”. This definition is directly connected to the exiles of Israel, whom God will help, as it is written in Isaiah 41:10:

But you, Israel, are My servant,

Jacob whom I have chosen,

The descendants of Abraham My friend.

You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth,

And called from its farthest regions,

And said to you,

‘You are My servant,

I have chosen you and have not cast you away:

Fear not, for I am with you;

Be not dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you,

Yes, I will help you,

I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:8-10

This is how we make the connection to Lazarus being a prophetic picture of the nation of Israel in exile. The death of Lazarus prophetically foreshadows being in exile in the nations of the world. Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house. Ezekiel 12: 2

In this session, Eddie discusses how Martha is a prophetic picture of Christianity and Mary is a prophetic picture of Judaism. He compares Mary and Martha to two sisters found in Ezekiel 23, Aholah and Aholibah:

And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah. Ezekiel 23: 4

We see that Aholah represents Samaria or the Northern Kingdom, and Aholibah represents Jerusalem, or the Southern Kingdom. Both sisters in this chapter, commit adultery against the God of Israel.

Mary and Martha, whose names mean rebellious, are likened unto the nation of Israel and breaking the covenant at Mt Sinai. They are a spiritual picture of Northern kingdom and Southern kingdom.

Similarly, Lazarus is a prophetic picture of the exiles of Israel.

Lazarus name means, “one whom God helps”. He is sick. This is a prophetic picture of the exiles of Israel who are described as afflicted, poor and sick. He is from Bethany. Bethany means house of the poor or afflicted. Because of breaking the covenant at Mt Sinai, the exiles of Israel are poor and afflicted. Yeshua is told in John 11: 3 “Lord the one whom you love is sick.” Literally it is speaking of Lazarus, but in a deeper prophetic meaning, the one whom the Lord loves is the nation of Israel. The nation of Israel is sick for departing from the Lawgiver, Yeshua and from His Torah.

Yeshua is going to go to Lazarus, he is going to resurrect Lazarus, which is a prophetic picture of gathering and uniting the 12 tribes of Israel. Just as He was glorified when He redeemed the Hebrews in delivering them out of Egypt, He will be glorified again, when he gathers and unites the 12 tribes in of Israel in the end of days.

The spiritual status of the exiles of Israel is likened unto being “dead” and them being gathered from the nations of the world is likened unto their “resurrection”.

So,

Being in Exile = dead

end of the exile = resurrection = coming up out of their graves

Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Ezekiel 37: 11-12

How is the future gathering and uniting of all the tribes associated with Yahweh/Yeshua being known to all the nations and the Messiah being glorified? Take a look at Ezekiel 39: 21-28: And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them. So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward. And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Now I will bring back the captives of Jacob, and have mercy on the whole house of Israel; and I will be jealous for My holy name— after they have borne their shame, and all their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, when they dwelt safely in their own land and no one made them afraid. hen I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and I am hallowed in them in the sight of many nations, then they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who sent them into captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land, and left none of them captive any longer.
