There is an “Age of Law/Age of Grace” mindset and doctrine found in mainstream Christianity. This doctrine teaches that BEFORE Yeshua came and died on the tree that we were under the Law/Torah, but the AFTER Yeshua died on the tree, we came into a new era/dispensation, the Age of Grace. This doctrine teaches that we are no longer “under” the Law/Torah, but now we are under grace and that Yeshua died on the tree to “do away with” the Torah. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Listen in as Eddie untangles this knot and shows us that Yahweh/Yeshua is the same yesterday, today and forever. His grace and mercy is from everlasting to everlasting. Yahweh/Yeshua has always been a God of grace/mercy from the very beginning.

There are a couple of verses in Hebrews that have been misinterpreted leading to the conclusion that the Torah has been done away with:

In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. Hebrews 8:13

For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, Hebrews 12:18

What has been done away with is NOT the Torah, but the STONY HEART that could not RECEIVE and FOLLOW the Torah:

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26

The Torah was received on Mt Sinai on stone tablets, and this was prophetic of the stony hearts of the people who did not receive it. The new covenant administered by our Great High Melchisedec Priest, Yeshua is about receiving a heart of flesh so that the Torah can be written upon our hearts and we can follow the Torah of Yeshua by the spirit of God.

What did Yeshua’s Priestly ministry do for the believer? In the last session, we saw that the shedding of His blood did not just atone or cover for sin, it REMOVES and TAKES AWAY our sin. In this session, we learn that the blood of Yeshua makes reconciliation between God and man. We also see that our Yeshua, our Great High Priest, takes us on a spiritual journey from Mt Sinai to Mt Zion.

Therefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness. Hebrews 3:7-8

What does “hear His voice” mean? It means to follow His Torah!

Therefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do always err in their heart; and they have NOT known my ways. So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest. Hebrews 3:10-11

Paul is writing to believers. He is warning them not to harden their hearts. How do we harden our heart? If we don’t listen to His voice and if we don’t follow His Torah. Just like our forefathers, if we have a stony heart and we don’t follow His Torah, we cannot go into the promised land. It doesn’t mean they were not saved. It means that they didn’t have the fullness of what God had in mind for them. The promised land represents the kingdom. This principle applies to us today.

Yeshua’s Priesthood brings us into the destination, the Promised Land, which is Jerusalem, which is Mount Zion. His Priesthood brings us into the fullness of His rest and the fullness of His Kingdom with all the inheritance and blessings. Moses cannot lead you to the promised land, but Yeshua CAN! Why? Because He is our High Priest in the order of Melchesedik! Our ultimate destination is to the heavenly Jerusalem, and our Melchesedic High Priest, Yeshua, will take us there!

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1:3

The Melchesedic Priesthood governs the new covenant (Jer 31;31-33). Yeshua is the High Priest in the Order of Melchesedic who governs the new covenant. He is also the High Priest in the Heavenly Tabernacle. In our last session, we learned about why Yeshua is so unique as the High Priest and why it is SUPERIOR to the Levitical Priesthood. The Levitical Priesthood is not done away with or replaced. The Levitical Priests will have a role to play in the future millennial reign of Yeshua. However, the Levitical Priests could not bring believers in Messiah Yeshua into spiritual maturity.

In this session, we will learn what Yeshua as our Great High Melchesedic Priest has done for the believer that the Levitical Priesthood could not do. Yeshua, as our High Priest, purged us of our sins when He shed his blood on the tree. (Heb 1:3, Matthew 26:27-28):

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Through the Levitical Priesthood there was atoning or covering for sins, but Yeshua, through the shedding of His blood, takes AWAY sin.

And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament (covenant), that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament (covenant) , they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. Hebrews 9:15

The first covenant was made at Mt Sinai, and it was immediately broken through the sins of the people at the golden calf incident. Yeshua, in dying on the tree, becomes the mediator, or the Great High Priest in the order of Melchezedik, of a new covenant, wherein the Torah is now written upon our heart, and the spirit of God that comes to dwell within us, enabling us to follow and keep the Torah.

Yeshua, as our Great High Priest:

*is above the angels (Heb. 1:4)

*is counted worthy of more glory than Moses (Heb. 3:3)

*is the firstborn and is the highest of all kings on the earth (Psalm 89: 26-27)

*ministers right now as Great High Priest in the Father’s heavenly tabernacle (Heb.8:1-2)

*is a faithful firstborn son (Heb. 1:5)

*is the King of Israel (John 1:49)

*is the Son of God (John 1:49, Heb 1:8)

*is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Rev 19:16)

Yeshua is our Great High Priest and mediator of a new covenant. The Melchezedik Priesthood is superior to the Levitical priesthood because of WHO HE IS. Listen in and learn more!

For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: ot according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people. Hebrews 8:8-10

Who was the God of Israel finding fault with? What was the real issue/problem? Was it with the Torah? Or with something else?

Yahweh was finding fault with the Levitical priests who were not keeping the Torah themselves. He also found fault with the people who had stony hearts and were not keeping the Torah. The real issue/problem was not with the Torah. It was with the stony hearts of both the Levitical priests and the people. He was not doing away with the Torah, He was dealing with the stony hearts of the people. He renewing the original covenant, but this time is giving the people a hearts of flesh so we can follow the Torah… because it is written upon their hearts.

The new Priesthood, headed up Yeshua, the Great High Priest in the order of Melchezedik, this new priesthood was established to administer and govern the New Covenant. Listen in to learn more!

What is this “new covenant” spoken of in this passage of Hebrews? Paul is quoting from Jeremiah 31:31-33. Does Hebrews 8:13 mean that the Torah has been done away with?

This verse is misunderstood by many in mainstream Christianity. What did Paul really mean in saying this? To understand Paul, we need to look at the New Testament from a Torah perspective and mindset. Here are Paul’s own words:

Do we then make void the Torah through faith? God forbid: yea, we ESTABLISH the Torah. Romans 3:31

Hebrews compares and contrasts Yeshua in the role of Melchezedik Priesthood to the Levitical Priesthood of the Levites. As a background to understanding the role/function of the Melchezedik Priesthood, Eddie continues with revealing to us the role and function of the Levitical Priesthood. Yeshua, as Melchezedik Priest, has a superior office to the Levitical Priesthood. The Levitical Priesthood is not done away with or replaced, it has been suspended because there is no Temple. They will have a role to play when Messiah returns (Isaiah 66:20-21).

During the kingdom split, Jeroboam led the 10 tribes of the North into a system of “golden calf worship” and he departed from following the Torah. Jeroboam appointed Priests of the lowest of the people who were not Levites. The Levites were out of a job in the Northern Kingdom, so the majority of them migrated to the Southern Kingdom. (2 Chron. 11:13-14)

At the end of the 70 year exile in Babylon, the Levitical Priests returned with Ezra and Nehemiah to Jerusalem to help rebuild the Tabernacle (Ezra 3:8). Yet, they did not follow the Torah themselves, nor did they teach the people to follow the Torah (Malachi 2:7-8)Yet, we learn that the Levitical Priesthood will be restored during the Messianic era and that the Levites will be teaching the Torah during the Messianic era! A main principle that comes out of the book of Hebrews is that Yeshua, who is the Word of God made flesh, that He is a Priest of the order of Melchezedik. He is the Melchezedik Priest of the new covenant (Jer. 31:31-33). He is also the Melchezedik Priest of the Heavenly Tabernacle. Hebrews compares and contrasts the Levitical priesthood of Levites with the Melchezedik Priesthood of Yeshua the Messiah.

The Levites:

*received the firstfruit offerings (Deut. 18:1,4, Nehemiah 10: 34-35

*received the firstborn of sons (Neh. 10: 36)

*were given the tithes of the Tabernacle (Numbers 18:20-21, Hebrews 7: 5)

*were given the tithes from the ground (Nehemiah 10:37)

*tithed the tithe that they received (Numbers 18:26)

*set up and took down the tabernacle (Numbers 1: 51)

*camped around the tabernacle (Numbers 2:17)

*had no land inheritance because the Lord is their inheritance (Deut. 10:9, Joshua 13:33)

*when the children of Israel went into the Promised land the Levites were given cities to dwell in (Numbers 35: 2,7)

From Adam until the golden calf incident, it was the firstborn who had the priestly rights and duties to minister before God and to teach the ways of God to their families. After the golden calf incident, the firstborn priesthood role and duty was given over to the Levites. (Numbers 3:45, Numbers 8:18).

The Levites:

*wore special linen garments (Exodus 28:4)

*made offerings before the Lord and were themselves an offering (Numbers 8:13-14)

*were to be holy and set apart (Numbers 8:5-7)

*were ministers of the Tabernacle (Numbers 1: 50-51, Numbers 3:5-7)

*carried the ark of the covenant (Deut. 10: 8)

*were teachers of the Torah (Nehemiah 8:7-8, Malachi 2:1, 6-7)

*were worship leaders (1 Chron. 9:33, 1 Chron. 15:16)

*were given authority to make Torah rulings when there were issues of debate and things that needed to be clarified (Deuteronomy 17:8-9, 2 Chron. 19:8)

*were officers and judges (1 Chron. 23:3-4)

The Levites had duties with the first tabernacle in the wilderness. They also had duties with Solomon’s temple. Listen in to learn more!

Has the Levitical Priesthood been done away with or replaced?

In this session, Eddie gives us a background on the book of Hebrews so we can better understand the context and purpose of the book of Hebrews.

One of the main points in Hebrews is this: Yeshua is a Melchezedik Priest. Hebrews compares and contrasts Yeshua being the Melchezedik Priest with the role and task of the Levitical Priesthood, showing that Yeshua being Messiah in His role as Melchizedek Priest is SUPERIOR to the Levitical Priesthood.
