Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship a two-part study of the first part of the “plagues of Egypt” (Exodus 6:3 through chapter 9)
The story begins with an explanation that “When I appeared [thus, “Vayera”] to Abraham,” and Isaac, and Jacob, it was not the name “YHVH” that He emphasized, or “made Myself known.” NOW, however, “ani YHVH” is the fundamental, central part of what is to be made clear!
And that is precisely what He did, including sets of plagues that, in every respect, made that clear, and is now fundamental to what we see again being played out in our times.
Mark sets out the overview in the Erev Shabbat teaching:
There is, of course, much more going on in this fundamental story of deliverance than just plagues, and a “hard-hearted” Pharoah. It turns out, for example, that there are two distince, and very different, Hebrew words that are translated into English as “hardened his heart,” and that makes almost as important as “whodunnit”.
But this year, in particular, there is SO much about this Torah portion that ought to literally jump off the page as we see the undeniable parallels between those plagues, and the ones at hand now. It is not just the patterns, though, that are repeating, which give us guidance. It’s the fact that we now have His Written Word, THIS time around, that gives us one huge advantage — and challenge! — that neither the people of Israel, nor “Pharoah’s magicians” had then.
“Vayera: Lessons from Plagues, then and now. Who ‘makes a distinction’? ”
The combined two-part teaching is here:
At the very heart of what the Scripture means by the admonition to “Come out of her, My people,” is the question of Who we serve. (“If YHVH be God, then serve Him,” said the prophet Elijah, “but if Baal be god, then serve him.”)
And if the “law” we follow comes from Him, then we had better understand what that means. Today we see lying, oath-breaking politicians who claim to follow the “constitution”, but they have obviously never even read it. Or, worse, simply detest everything about the “Supreme Law,” Who ordained all of it.
But we are rapidly approaching the point where we will HAVE to choose. There are SO many
“What IS Law, and What ISN’T”
Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship a study of the first parsha this week in the Book of Exodus, the parsha and Book of Shemot in the Hebrew. (Exodus 1:1 through 6:2)
This time the story picks up about two centuries after the time of Yakov and Yosef, and the key is a new dynasty, and a pharoah “who knows NOT Joseph”.
The overview of the story itself, from that time where the tribes of Israel have already fallen into bondage, through the Egyptian version of “post-birth abortion”, and the introduction of Moshe (Moses) to his escape into the wilderness and encounter with the ‘burning bush’ are covered in the Erev Shabbat teaching:
THe Sabbath Day teaching this week, however, takes a very different approach.
The life of Joseph is over, and somehow those that he saved have fallen into bondage. But we don’t have a lot of detail in Scripture – at least not HERE – about how that happened. What is hard to miss, however, are the parallels. We can see how much about THAT pharaoh sounds SO familiar:
Evil “leaders” who not only want to kill male children, but ALL of ’em. And they “know not YHVH”, either. But there is at least one verse (that’s not actually really IN the Bible anyway) that they know, the twisted Romans 13, GIV.
We are now AT ‘the cusp’.
The essence of “Ehyeh asher ehyeh” is not ONLY “I AM,” but “I WILL BE what I WILL BE,” and it looks to a future tense. We had better choose TODAY Whom we will serve, so that we can learn to trust Him for the future He has for us!
“Shemot: We are now ‘pre-Moses’ ”
The combined two-part teaching is here:
We are, by just about any rational measure, rapidly coming up on a “cusp”, where many things will change, dramatically.
And that is very likely to include the possibility of another one or even more “false flag events”.
Certainly, it’s also true, whether by economic, social, political, and spiritual indicators — or Scripture and prophecy — we have been WARNED.
And it looks like some of those events may be predictable, and occur on or around January 20th.
War, as the ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu pointed out, is based on deception.
Which begs the question: Can we see it coming? Will people see through it?
Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship a study of the final parsha in the Book of Bereshiet or Genesis, Vayechi (Gen. 47:28 through the end). It sets up what follows, and what is still in-progress.
This parsha concludes the lives of both Yakov, aka Jacob, and Israel, and his son Yosef as well, years later.
And this parsha, too – like last week, ends in a bit of a cliff-hanger. A multi-generational one at that.
Arguably the most important part of that cliff-hanger is still in play, too: “Whose are THESE?” And, since we’re still in exile – Whose are WE?
The Sabbath day teaching is mostly about FAMILY, the fundamental unit of government in Scripture, and thus the most attacked in a world which hates His Word.
But even there again, that question remains unanswered. Whose are we?
The life of Joseph has been understood as a type of the Messiah to come, specifically, the ‘Suffering Servant,’ Meshiach ben Yosef. And the parallels are instructive, but perhaps also cautionary. Yosef actions, in accord with the plan of Yah, saved lives, and enabled the Sons oF Israel to continue toward the promises of the Covenant.
But bondage followed.
How do we make sense of the deceptions today, the war on family, and particularly the type of headship demonstrated in Scripture, given the warnings about “brother against brother,” the strife, the betrayal, that we also see in families, even in Scripture?
And how does the story of the ‘prodigal son’, perhaps give us some insight into where we are, “on the cusp”?

The combined two-part teaching is here:
World War III MAY, or may not, have started recently via events surrounding Iraq, Iran, a drone strike on a terrorist general, and a lot of what looks like “related reprisals.” But it LOOKS like, at least for now, we may have more time to prepare for whatever is ultimately coming.
But not much more.
Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for another two-part look at the parsha “Vayigash” (Genesis 44:18 – 47:22), and how the parallels – and even ‘anti-parallels’ – of the time of Yosef, and that famine, inform our options and choices today.
This parsha picks up with the climax of where the ‘cliff-hanger’ from last week left off: that Judah “man’s up” – and demonstrates beyond question to his long-lost brother — even if he doesn’t know that! — that the man Joseph remembers is now fit to be the father of kings.
But what Mark focuses on in the Sabbath teaching is how that demonstrates one of the important understandings associated with an understanding of the cycles in history and prophecy. And part of that involves where we were, and ARE, in that cycle, especially with regard to society and human nature.
Judah showed, by his willingness to honor his oath to HIS father, even at the cost of his own life, what is so different about that time of preparedness and now. Some things are parallel to what happened in that story, while others are literally polar opposites.
Who was “prepping” then, and now? Who keeps their oaths, then and now? What does it mean that the “money failed,” then and now?
And those differences are today a literal matter of life and death.
“Vayigash: “What Judah’s fidelity to HIS oath tells us about what’s coming”
The combined two-part teaching is here:
Yahushua warns us in Matthew chapter 24 to “take heed that no one deceives you,” and yet the level of deception Currently In Progress may be the greatest in human history.
Some of it has to do with language, and the concerted attempt to hide what the meaning of “is”, is, along with almost everything else. But the trouble isn’t just with the words themselves, it’s “dumbed-down illiterates” who simply don’t know that they mean.
And there is of course, more:
“What You DON’T Know May Kill You…
Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a two-part look at the parsha “Miketz” (Genesis 41:1 -4:17).
This parsha begins with Yosef still in prison, two full years after we left the story. It is Pharoah’s dreams that now take center stage, as the 30-year-old finds himself catapulted by the hand of Yah to the Number 2 position in all Egypt, and becomes the world’s pre-eminent “Prepper” in the process.
The Erev Shabbat overview lays that out.
The Sabbath Day study still has to do with the “Plan of Yah.” But in this case it’s the CONTRASTS that are interesting; Mark describes the contrast as the “opposite part of the cycle”, of history and prophecy.
Imagine a time – even under a pagan Pharoah! – when men like Joseph were recognized as “discerning and wise” and got promototed to positions of authourity, in order to SAVE lives rather than ridiculed or villified. Scripture describes a number of wise kings, concerned for their people, who prepared for “hard times”.
What marks this cycle, however, is the opposite situation. There are clearly VERY evil people, servants of the “prince of this world,” who come “but to kill and destroy”, and seek not to help people survive the coming “lean years,” but maximize the destruction.
Thankfully, we have the instruction Torah, the lessons of history and the prophets, and the examples of men like Yosef to help US prepare for what is so clearly coming.
“Mikettz: “Jrepping for the OTHER part of the Prophetic Cycle!”
The combined two-part teaching is here:
Many of us by now hopefully have a “sense of urgency” about preparing – economically, physically, emotionally, and certainly spiritually, for what is not only coming, but FAST. Much of what Scripture indicates will eventually manifest, and seems to be ‘at-hand’ is also almost “under the radar” given the political coup still ocupying the center ring.
As a result, many people tend to focus on centralized, “top-down”, even political solutions to what is really a moral rot at the heart of the pagan world’s problems.
This week, host Mark Call takes a look at some of the “tests” we will almost certainly need to develop “discernment” that may soon be a matter of life and death.
