Only 15 episodes of the last network radio comedy series were aired before CBS cancelled the show in October of 1957. The incredible talent of Stan Freberg and his regular cast members that included Daws Butler, June Foray, and Peter Leeds , with Billy May handling the music direction created routines and unique comedy, running gags, that the audience loved, but sponsors of the show did not appreciate as Freberg often went after Madison Avenue types. The show lasted about 4 months and then shut down. Fortunately we have great transcriptions of the shows and the humor is as funny today as it was then. Stan Freberg was a multi-talented man with immense creativity. This long running serial comedy (1930-1945) starred husband and wife Goodman and Jane Ace (photo). The program used practically no sound effects and only some introductory music because it was dialog based, similar to "Vic and Sade." It was a low-key legend of old-time radio that was known for it literate, bland conversational style and the malaprops of the female lead, Jane Ace, the real-life spouse of Goodman Ace. There was no live audience, in fact when they tried the show with a live audience, it lasted one season! The dialog is what this cleverly written show is all about. On this track are three back-to-back approximately 12 minute episodes. This was a serial comedy so the shows were connected. These three involve Jane opening up her first checking account, then figuring out how to use it, and lastly dealing with problems related to the account, like over drafts! Listen to Jane... the malaprops like "Time wounds all heels" or "You've got to take the bitter with the better," abound. Lots of fun. I inserted a couple of old time radio commercials between the episodes... can you identify the star featured in the first commercial "Wildroot Cream Oil?" Initials are "NKC"...

Hey if you are an old time country western fan… this track is for you… yes, it is a rebroadcast of the Armed Forces Radio Service 15 minute program called the “Town and Country Time” show here on Heirloom Radio… a different kind of oldies program. Host of this show was Jimmy Dean. The show was syndicated for the United States Army and was sponsored by Army Recruiting Office. Jim Hale was the announcer and the regular musicians ... The adventure series "Captain Midnight" continues with Episodes 15 and 16 edited back-to-back with an old time commercial in between. Then there is a very special decoded message for the audience at the end of the show! These programs were in a genre called "Juvenile Adventures," but many adults enjoyed them too! The recordings are 80 years old and considering that and the plot of the stories, they still stand up and entertain very well. This is an excellent show upon which to exercise your imagination or have a youngster listen ... each person that listens to a show like this has a different perception or image as to what the scenes, characters, and actions are... it is all very personal with just audio. It can be anything you want it to be, as it is all in your mind. The saga continues in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde... an Australian radio adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's novella written in 1885. The outstanding radio version is circa 1943. George Edwards, known as the man of 1000 voices, plays multiple roles in this series. This track, #12 in the Playlist "Jekyll and Hyde" features Episode 23 "Lost in the Mountain" and Episode 24 "The Meeting in Paris" edited back-to-back with a OTR commercial separating them...
