Dr. Kildare starring Lew Ayers (Photo standing) as Dr. Kildare and Lionel Barrymore as Dr. Gillespie (Photo seated) ... starting in the summer of 1949 MGM reunited Ayers and Barrymore in the radio version of Dr. Kildare, based on the hit MGM movies. Each episode was a stand-alone story, not a serial, which made the series very popular. The series was syndicated to over 200 outlets in the USA and Canada, mostly on the Mutual Broadcasting System stations. The show was extremely popular but when it went to television, radio listeners began to drop off and no new episodes were done after 1951 although rebroadcasts of the series continued for several more years. Excellent writing, superb actors, top-notch technical work all combined to make this a first class radio show! Thanks for listening. More episodes in our "Soap Opera" playlist.
