September 02, 2019Lights Out ! - "We Dug It Up!" - Feb. 9, 1943 - Supernatural ThrillerDebuting in 1934, "Lights Out" was radio's premier horror series. Wyllis Cooper was the original writer of the series and sought to produce grisly stories, matched with the appropriate acting and sound effects aired a midnight. In June of 1936, Arch Oboler took over the series which had garnered 600 Fan Clubs. He followed Cooper's basic example but added more streams of conscious narration and sometimes political themes. Cooper and Oboler understood that radio drama is an art form... and they used their skills with incredible stories that were carried via electromagnetic waves to millions upon millions of listeners via their radios until the summer of 1947.
