Starring Edward G Robinson (Photo) and Joan Bennett, this Lux Radio Theatre production of Dec 19, 1938 re-creates the story of "Kid Galahad" based on the motion picture. This is a boxing story of a champion who falls in love with the Trainer's daughter... but there is a triangle love affair involved... and things get complicated quickly in this excellent radio adaptation. The first 4 mins of the track includes history about the Lux Radio Theatre and an brief intro to "Kid Galahad" Heard during the show... at the intermission is Jack Dempsey. Part 4 ...Ronnie Tomanio is an author of several Children's books. He works on a local public media television program with me to produce "Don't Dis' My Ability" a show for and about people living with disabilities and those who love and care for them. A few years ago he asked me to try to do an audio form of his short stories about his pet cat, Jeffrey, who passed away at the age of 18 years old this past March. I did one story and Ronnie enjoyed it so much that he has been writing some additional stories and this is the fourth in the current series or Playlist. It is all in fun and brings a smile to his grandchildren's faces... grandchildren who, when they were little, were deathly afraid of Jeffrey (who did nothing to deserve that fear!) In this adventure, Jeffrey tells Ronnie a pretty tall tale as to why he was late coming home. Ronnie thinks it is all a big lie, but then Jeffrey produces evidence that his tale (not "tail) was true! The Adventures of Sam Spade starring Howard Duff and Lurene Tuttle returns to Heirloom Radio with "The Blue Beard Caper" from August 8, 1948. Track has introductory material on the series which was heard on radio from 1946 (13 episodes) in 1946, CBS (157 episodes) in 1946-49, and ended with 51 episodes on NBC from 1949-52. Howard Duff played Sam Spade (very different from Humphrey Bogart character in "The Maltese Falcon:) for all but the final year or so when Steve Dunne took over the role. Lurene Tuttle plays Spade's Girl Friday, Secretary Effie... Series was awarded Best Radio Drama from the Mystery Writers of America in 1947. Enjoy.
