Jubilee is an AFRS radio program that featured African-American musicians and singers. It was broadcast to servicemen via AFRS from 1942 to 1953. Jubilee was conceived at least in part as a morale-building service for African-American troops overseas. The wartime host was Ernie "Bubbles" Whitman. The music and the comedy sketches are tremendous in this July 17. 1944 recording of the live broadcast.

There were many big band and dance band live remote radio broadcasts during the 1940’s one of the most popular being

"Your Saturday Date with the Duke," meaning Duke Ellington of course… but on this track I feature one of the lesser known but excellent orchestras that of Claude Thornhill … and as an added bonus the Ray Anthony Orchestra is also heard on this NBC program. Combination of some excellent instrumental and vocal talents of the late 1940's.

An early comedy detective show aired on KNX in Hollywood during 1933-35. Over 300 episodes but only 5 have been found at this point. This track features background information on the series and includes one episode: A Shortage in Store Sugar Count as Detectives Jim Black and Frank Blue, played by Charles Forsyth and Len Wright respectively... try to bumble their way through the solution of a crime. Another 14 minute GI-Jill show featuring the incredible Bobby Sherwood hit song, The Elks Parade... also hear Bing Crosby and Count Basie on this 1944 show broadcast over shortwave to our troops overseas during WW II. GI Jill's real name was Martha Wilkerson and she had the most popular DJ radio show during WW II.

Nearly 80 years ago this excellent radio adaptation of Charles Dickens "A Tale of Two Cities" was the third production broadcast on both CBS and CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company). Orson Welles and John Housemann founded the New York Drama Company which produced this play and many others during 1938-39. The track has an introductory segment about the play. Here are the actors and their roles that are heard in this production: Orson Welles as Dr. Alexander Manette and Sydney Carton, Mary Taylor as Lucie Manette, Eustace Wyat as the Clerk. Egar Barrier as Charles Darnay, Martin Gable as Mr. Jarvis Lorry, Frank Readick as Ernest Defarge, Betty Gard as Madame Defarge, Erskine Sanford as The President, Ray Collins as the Prosecutor, and Kenneth Delmar as the Counselor for the Defense.

This 1940 NBC live broadcast featured the Glenn Miller Orchestra (Photo) from the top of the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City... The Cafe Rouge... This broadcast is loaded with some great Big Band music and two very talented vocalists... Marion Hutton and Ray Eberle. Broadcast from 1943-47 on NBC and Mutual Networks... this was a Fantasy/Supernatural Anthology Series. It featured stories derived from classic horror, ghost tales, and supernatural stories. On this track, "The Ancient Mariner" based on "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" written in 1798 by English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
