Five additional Henrico schools have been listed by the Virginia Department of Education for 2023-2024 as federally identified for needing more support for certain student groups. Brookland Middle, Cashell Donahoe Elementary, Harold Macon Ratcliffe Elementary, Jacob L. Adams Elementary, and L. Douglas Wilder Middle have been added this school year to the VDOE’s list of Henrico schools at which at-risk students are struggling. Bills that will provide high schoolers with hazing prevention instruction have passed the General Assembly.  Sen. Jennifer Boysko, D-Fairfax, introduced Senate Bill 379 to require that research-based hazing instruction be taught to students in ninth or 10th grade. Del. Atoosa Reaser, D-Loudoun, introduced the companion House Bill 719.  The bills had unanimous support in the Senate, but over 40 House Republicans voted against the bills. The instruction will include examples of hazing and its dangers, consequences of alcohol intoxication and laws regarding hazing, such as bystander intervention. The housing market in Virginia witnessed a slow start to the new year, according to the Virginia Home Sales Report from Virginia Realtors. In January, 5,640 home sales were recorded throughout the state – just 31 more sales than during the same month in 2023. Legislation to set up a state process to identify sources of high levels of PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” is moving swiftly through the General Assembly. The bills from Sen.
