In 2021, 13-year-old Lucia Bremer of Henrico County was shot and killed by a 14-year-old with his legal guardian’s gun. Her parents have been advocating for legislation to prevent a death like Lucia’s from happening again. Their efforts are becoming a reality. Virginia State Police officials welcomed 52 new troopers into their ranks during a Feb. 23 graduation ceremony in Chesterfield County. Richmond International Airport has rolled out a new security technology to verify travelers’ identities and flight information in real-time. The new system, called Credential Authentication Technology, is now in use at the Transportation Security Administration security checkpoints at the airport. It can scan a traveler’s photo ID and compare it to the image he or she provided when at check-in. A new farmer-owned cooperative aims to restore and revitalize poultry production in Central Virginia, following last year's closure of the Tyson Foods broiler facility in Hanover County. The Central Virginia Poultry Cooperative will produce and sell cage-free eggs to Dutch Country Organics, LLC of Indiana. The new cooperative expects to place hens in members' converted broiler houses in April. March 10-16 will be National Flood Awareness Week, and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation wants Virginians to prepare for the possibility of flooding across the commonwealth.
