The Virginia Department of Transportation will begin a two-year bridge rehabilitation project across the Varina-Enon Bridge on I-295 to enhance the life cycle of the bridge. During the life of the project, alternating lane closures will be implemented on northbound and southbound lanes at various times. Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 12, the right lane of I-295 northbound will be closed permanently until early Spring 2024. Journalists could have more federal protections if a reintroduced shield law bill can pass Congress this term. The PRESS Act would protect journalists, including citizen journalists, from federal court-ordered disclosure of information about a source. There are a handful of limitations such as information that could prevent an act of terrorism against the U.S., according to the bill. The bill would also prevent important data on a reporter’s personal device from being seized without notice. The Capital Region Land Conservancy and the Henricopolis Soil and Water Conservation District have recorded a conservation easement on 1.5 miles of frontage along the Chickahominy River and 170 acres of forests and wetlands in Henrico County. Located below the falls of the river and east of Interstate 95, this conservation easement will permanently protect 124 acres of freshwater wetlands and two streams – swampy areas that offer habitat for frogs, salamanders, turtles, water-loving birds, and numerous plant species. A former third grade teacher of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Henrico was indicted Sept. 11 on multiple counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and aggravated sexual battery. Daro Ing has been charged with nine counts of aggravated sexual battery of a victim under thirteen years old and four counts of indecent acts with a child custodian, according to court records. The Virginia Department of Corrections is continuing to search for escaped inmate Naseem Isaiah Roulack, 21, also known as Lil Nas, who walked away from two VADOC security officers Aug. 12 at about 5:50 a.m. at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Henrico. Phyllis Mondak, Varina resident and Lakeside businesswoman, died Aug. 17 after a year-long battle with a blood disease (MDS).  Mondak was born April 2, 1953 in Maryland. She attended Valparaiso University before transferring to Boston University, where she graduated with a degree in psychology.  She later obtained two master's degrees and worked as a special education teacher, followed by a career with the Va. Department of Education in Early Childhood Education.  Upon her retirement, Phyllis turned to her passion of quilting, and owned and ran Quilting Adventures for eight years.  Phyllis leaves behind her husband David Martinez; her sons Andrew Mondak...Article Link

Henrico County is implementing a real estate tax cap program for homeowners 65 years and older and other homeowners who are 100% permanently and totally disabled.
