A section of Wilkinson Road, including its crossing of Upham Brook, will be closed until late 2024 for improvements to enhance safety and alleviate flooding. Crews closed the road today between Pony Farm Drive and Wilkinson Estates Drive to begin work. A detour is routing traffic around the work zone via Azalea Avenue and Chamberlayne Road. A hit-and-run incident on West Broad Street in Short Pump has left one man dead. At about 11 p.m. Sept. 11, Henrico Police responded to West Broad Street near Spring Oak Drive and found 52-year-old Alonzo Earl Williams, Sr., of Richmond, lying in the road. He later died. Police officials continue to investigate the incident and have not yet provided any identifying characteristics of the vehicle that struck Williams. Their preliminary investigation shows that Williams appeared to walk into the roadway before being struck. A candidate in a high-stakes legislative contest in Virginia had sex with her husband in live videos posted on a pornographic website and asked viewers to pay them money in return for carrying out specific sex acts. Deep Run High School The Wildcats’ football team fell to 0-3 on the season after a 41-14 loss to Prince George (1-2). Despite the tough loss, the Wildcats had some strong performances offensively. The Richmond region’s level of homelessness has remained high since the COVID pandemic, as need has continued to outpace capacity of local human services assistance programs and affordable housing resources. Data from the July 2023 Point in Time (PIT) count recorded 486 people experiencing homelessness, which is 8.7 percent higher than the figures recorded in the July 2022 PIT count. The Dorey Park Farmers Market was among three Virginia projects to receive awards recently from the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development (AFID) Fund Infrastructure Grant program.
