Five Henrico County public high schools were ranked in the top 100 of “Best Virginia High Schools” and listed in the “2023-2024 Best U.S. High Schools” by U.S. News & World Report. The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority will adjust its store hours, beginning Sept. 1. All 399 stores will operate from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays, a change for 14 stores. Additionally, 155 stores – including six in Henrico County – will close earlier Monday through Saturday, and all stores will open at their normal hours and close at 6 p.m. on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4. The Capital Region Airport Commission reported 439,951 total passengers for July 2023 at Richmond International Airport, a new all-time high that surpassed the previous record set earlier this year (431,416 in May).  Capital Region Airport Commission President and CEO Perry J. The Henrico Education Foundation is celebrating its 30th anniversary during the 2023-24 school year, beginning with a fundraising campaign kicking off Sept. 1. Founded in 1993, the nonprofit partners with Henrico County Public Schools to provide school programming with an aim to address the opportunity gap and support Henrico’s most vulnerable students. All students attending the 43 Henrico schools under the Community Eligibility Provision will automatically receive free breakfast and lunch for the 2023-24 school year with no application necessary. This October, the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond will commemorate and honor the U.S. Marines who died in the bombing of their barracks in Beirut, Lebanon in October 1983 with a special program and film premiere. The film, produced by the VWM in association with Blue Ridge PBS, is entitled “One Week In October” and tells the story of both the Beirut bombing and the invasion of the island of Grenada during the same week.  The film will also be aired on PBS television stations throughout Virginia. More than 150 Virginia law enforcement agencies are participating in this year's Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over campaign. An increased enforcement period for the campaign will take place through the Labor Day holiday.
