On February 2, 2023, brothers from the Pi Beta Chi fraternity at James Madison University prepared to leave an organized fraternity event at the Paradise City Gentleman's Club in West Virginia. According to a fraternity source, 12 to 14 cars filled with fraternity brothers went to the club, and each car had a designated driver who was expected to remain sober and follow the law. An Independence Day shooting in Henrico left one man injured, according to Henrico Police. The shooting happened just before 11:18 p.m. in the 2500 block of Harvie Road in Eastern Henrico. First-responders found the man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and took him to a local hospital. There has been no update about his condition. Police continue to investigate the incident. Community leaders in Henrico are working to combat an increase in youth violence seen county-wide, according to Henrico Division of Police Chief Eric English. English said the county is seeing an increase in gun violence among their younger citizens when compared to past years. Henrico Police spent Wednesday afternoon at Audubon Apartment Complex, one of the communities impacted by youth gun violence. Over the last month, one teen was killed and three others were shot at the complex, according to the department.
