Henrico Police recovered a gun from a bathroom at Longdale Elementary School in Glen Allen Tuesday afternoon. Students at the school spotted the gun and alerted staff members, who contacted the school’s resource officer. Police and school officials are investigating the incident and have not given any indication publicly about who owns the gun, whether it was loaded or who brought it to the bathroom. “We commend the student(s) for doing the right thing and alerting responsible adults,” police officials Tweeted. Henrico Police are investigating the death of a 41-year-old county woman as a homicide. Brittany Jo McDaniel was found dead inside a home in the 600 block of Summer Court in Highland Springs at about 3:18 p.m. May 15 by a family member, who had called 911 to report that she was unresponsive. On Tuesday, police officials said they believe McDaniel was murdered. Three Henrico County students are among about 840 students nationally who recently earned ,500 National Merit Scholarships. Nikhil P. Amin (Godwin High School), Grace A. Loos (Godwin High School) and Carson J. Wang (Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School) each received the scholarship.
