Del. Lamont Bagby has won the Democratic firehouse primary Sunday for Virginia's 9th Senate District with more than 70% of the vote, according to the Democratic Party of Virginia. The primary came just a matter of days after former Senator Jennifer McClellan was elected to Congress, winning the seat held by the late Congressman Donald McEachin. Transportation Security Administration officers at Richmond International Airport prevented a Richmond woman from bringing her loaded handgun onto a flight Feb. 23. The .38-caliber gun was loaded with five bullets.  The gun was caught as the woman entered the security checkpoint. The X-ray unit alerted on the carry-on bag, which required a closer inspection. The firearm was removed by the local police, who confiscated the gun and cited the woman on weapons charges. Varina District Supervisor Tyrone Nelson was charged with a motor vehicle violation Friday morning after striking a cyclist on Osborne Turnpike in Varina. The incident happened shortly after 11:45 a.m. in the 6500 block of the road, when Nelson (who was driving) attempted to pass the cyclist but struck her as both were traveling north on the road.
