The Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger unveiled the finisher medal and participant shirt for this year’s event during its annual ‘10k Reveal Day,’ which took place at Ukrop’s Market Hall.  This year’s medal, which all participants will receive after crossing the finish line April 22, celebrates some of the iconic parts of the 10k course. The application process is now open for “My Henrico Academy,” a program from Henrico County designed to provide educational leadership opportunities for members of the local immigrant community. The program, which is free and now in its third year, provides curated courses about local government. Henrico County officials have reported the county's first rabies case of 2023. On Jan. 27, Henrico Police responded to the 400 block of Brookside Boulevard in the Fairfield District for a potential rabies exposure involving a dog and a raccoon. The raccoon had come through the dog door into the residence and had a physical altercation with a dog. The raccoon's remains were submitted to the state lab and later tested positive for rabies. A bill prohibiting teenagers from receiving certain kinds of antidepressants without parental consent passed the Health, Welfare and Institutions subcommittee in party-line 10-8 vote after some amendments. The bill, HB 1389, was proposed by Del. Timothy Anderson, R-Virginia Beach. The initial field test of metal detectors and weapon-detection devices scheduled to begin as soon as next week at some Henrico County public schools will involve only certain middle and high schools, according to recent correspondence from school system officials to citizens.
