A juvenile male suffered critical injuries after being shot in the 100 block of North Rose Avenue in Highland Springs shortly after noon Tuesday, according to Henrico Police Lt. Matt Pecka. The New Market Heights Battlefield in Varina has been named one of the most endangered historic sites in Virginia by Preservation Virginia. After more than a year of reduced operating hours in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority stores will return to pre-pandemic operating hours May 14, agency officials announced May 11. All stores will open by 10 a.m. every day, except for some stores that regularly open later on Sundays. Store closing times, which returned to pre-pandemic hours in June 2020, will remain the same. President Joe Biden Tuesday will announce new federal partnerships with Uber and Lyft that will make trips with either company to and from COVID-19 vaccination sites free nationwide through July 4. For the second time in four days, Transportation Security Administration officers at Richmond International Airport prevented a traveler from boarding a flight with a loaded gun. On May 10, they stopped a Newport News woman from boarding with a 9mm handgun loaded with five bullets. On May 6, they had stopped a woman from carrying a loaded .38-caliber revolver onto her flight. Virginia voters in a recent poll ranked themselves as moderate, with a slightly conservative lean, but indicated support of more progressive legislation. The poll, released last week by Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center for Civic Leadership, could be a thermometer for the upcoming November election. A woman involved in a domestic-related shooting in the Lakeisde area Monday morning subsequently led police on a high-speed chase before shooting and killing herself, according to Virginia State Police.
