AAA is expecting gas prices in Virginia to climb this week in response to the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline, which delivers approximately 45% of all fuel to the East Coast. During the weekend, pipeline officials announced they were the victims of a cybersecurity attack and, as a precaution, shut down the pipeline, which runs from Texas to New York Harbor. Restaurant and convenience store chain Sheetz announced May 10 that it will implement an -per-hour raise for all of its 18,000 employees, effective May 21. Southwest Airlines began its new daily nonstop service from Richmond International Airport to Denver May 9. Officials celebrated with a ribbon-cutting at the Southwest ticket counter at the airport and a celebratory water arch salute conducted by the airport’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting department for the first Southwest Airlines Denver departure. Denver is the eighth most popular destination from RIC, according to airport officials.
