Patricia A. "Buzz" Woods, 78, of Henrico, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021, after a short illness. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Mary Alice Arnold, of Kinston, NC. She is survived by her son, Michael Berry (Cynthia); cousin, Lesli Casey and her son, Charlie. After graduating from Johns Hopkins University, mom worked for MCV as an X-Ray Tech, until they became part of the VCU medical system. She then retired from St. Mary's Hospital. Dr. Alfrieda Daly was born to Reverend Samuel Franklin and Mrs. Johnsie Pamela Daly on September 12th, 1930 in Catawba County, North Carolina. Her sunset was on April 18th, 2021 in Henrico, Virginia. As Richmond officials consider the possibility of a casino within the city’s boundaries, local leaders are weighing in on the concept. A majority of respondents to this week’s Richmond Power Poll believe the casino will be a good addition for the city, but respondents unanimously believed that the former Navy Hill proposal downtown would have been a better one. The Quioccasin Middle School athletic field will carry the name of Lucia Bremer, the 13-year-old QMS student who was murdered last month in a Far West End neighborhood. The Henrico School Board voted unanimously Thursday to name the field the Lucia Bremer Memorial Field, following a request from QMS principal Melanie Phipps, who in a five-page letter to the board cited comments from 33 individuals and families urging the move. High school students and staff members will carry lighter, more powerful laptops with them when school begins in the fall, thanks to a new four-year lease agreement approved Thursday by the Henrico School Board. A new round of federal funding is providing a boost to Henrico County Public Schools – and an even larger amount is on the way soon. The Henrico School Board Thursday accepted a total of about .87 million as part of the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief II funding effort – money provided to local school systems for pandemic relief as part of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2020.
