Henrico County officials Thursday officially opened an extension of the Virginia Capital Trail through Dorey Park. The 10-foot-wide path runs along the eastern side of the park for about three-quarters of a mile and connects to the Capital Trail. Glen Allen native Zac Jones is expected to make his National Hockey League debut Thursday night for the New York Rangers. In doing so, he would become the first NHL player born in the Richmond area. Henrico Police are seeking the public’s help in learning more about a shooting that left a man dead in Northern Henrico April 20. It happened in the 200 block of Knights Manor Court, just off Azalea Avenue near Wilkinson Road and the Richmond Raceway, shortly before 5 p.m. Police received a call about a firearm violation, arrived on the scene and found the man, 38-year-old Caron Jermaine Wilkins of Richmond, suffering from a gunshot wounded. For months, speculation that Amazon was building a massive facility on land at the Richmond Raceway complex grew. Wednesday, that speculation became reality as the company and Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced that the company is building a 650,000-square-foot robotics fulfillment center on 119 acres there, in Henrico's Fairfield District, with plans to hire more than 1,000 employees. A passenger on a GRTC CARE bus that ran off the road and crashed on I-64 in Henrico’s West End has died. The accident occurred at about 6:10 p.m. April 20 near mile marker 179 on I-64 East. Virginia State Police reported that a black Chevrolet Silverado was merging onto I-64 East from West Broad Street and struck the white Ford E-450 bus, which then ran off the road to the right. While cases begin to decline after a slight nationwide surge, Henrico County reported 46 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to the Virginia Department of Health. The county's seven-day moving average fell to 58 new cases reported daily. The county reported three new hospitalizations and one new virus-related death, according to VDH data. Henrico's PCR and antigen rapid tests are revealing higher rates of positivity, according to the VDH.
