New daily COVID-19 cases in Henrico County have continued to hover 70 during the past week, settling at 66 per day during the past seven days Monday, according to the Virginia Department of Health. Fifty-three new cases were reported in the county Monday. There were no new hospitalizations Monday, but there was one new virus-related death (following two reported Sunday) according to VDH data. Walgreens announced Monday that it will begin selling an over-the-counter COVID-19 rapid test this week at stores nationwide. The Abbott BinaxNOW COVID-19 Self Test will be available for .99, according to Walgreens officials. It will be for sale in store, online and available by curbside pickup. Transportation Security Administration officers at Richmond International Airport stopped a man from bringing a loaded gun onto an airplane April 18. It was the fourth time this year a traveler was caught at the airport trying to bring a weapon onto a flight. The latest incident involved a Southampton County, Virginia, man who had a a .45-caliber handgun loaded with six bullets among his carry-on items at the security checkpoint. Xavier Nelson, a graduating eighth-grader at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, recently earned the Debbie Robson Merit Scholarship at The Steward School, a full scholarship to the school. The Black Village of RVA, a community-based organization soon to become a non-profit, will present donations April 22 to support A Few Good Roots Inc. at AFGR's new recovery home at 5 North Battery Street in Highland Springs. Mary McLemore Wells, 95, of Henrico, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 11, 2021. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Thomas Moore; father, Floyd Gideon Moore; brothers, Thomas R. Moore, Ernest Moore and Winfred Moore; first husband, Clifton McLemore; and her second husband, Thomas Wells. She graduated from Varina High School and later worked as a saleswoman for Thalhimers.
