Now that Henrico has entered Phase 2 of the COVID-19 vaccination process, the strategy for vaccinations in the county (and in neighboring Richmond) is shifting slightly. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra recently announced that about 390,000 Virginians are eligible for zero-dollar plans through HealthCare.gov due to the American Rescue Plan signed March 11 by President Biden. About 187,000 current enrollees and 203,000 uninsured adults can sign up for quality health coverage with no monthly premiums. A majority of Henrico supervisors Tuesday night expressed in no uncertain terms their desire for Henrico County to receive seats on the GRTC board of directors, which governs the regional transportation company. GRTC is wholly owned by the city of Richmond and Chesterfield County, each of which appoints three members to the board. After surpassing 100 cases yesterday, Henrico County reported 59 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to the Virginia Department of Health. The county's seven-day moving average increased to 71 daily new cases. There were three new hospitalizations, but no new deaths reported Wednesday in Henrico, according to VDH data. Henrico County has reported more than 200 COVID-19 outbreaks since the pandemic began, ranking third only behind Fairfax County and the City of Richmond.
