Henrico Citizen Managing Editor Patty Kruszewski won eight awards in the Virginia Professional Communicators 2021 communications contest, including four first-place entries that advanced to the National Federation of Press Women competition. Kruszewski was also the top VPC winner in the state, earning her the 2021 'Sweepstakes' award. Awards were announced at a virtual meeting March 26. The U.S. Department of Labor has selected seven states – including Virginia – to participate in its Advancing State Policy Integration for Recovery and Employment initiative, which aims to align state policy and funding to increase competitive integrated employment for people with mental health conditions. Ni Kin became a permanent resident in 2002 at 70 years old, but she was unable to work after moving from Myanmar to Virginia due to mobility problems. Kin required more medical attention related to her condition as she aged, but was unable to see a doctor because she didn’t have insurance, according to her grandson Tin Myint. An announcement that the state of Virginia will follow guidance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and pause use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine won’t impact many Henricoans, at least initially. In a statement early Tuesday, FDA officials recommended the pause “out of an abundance of caution” while they investigate six cases of rare blood clots in women who received the vaccine. A new traffic pattern will begin on Airport Drive at I-64 April 13 at 6 p.m., as part of the Virginia Department of Transportation’s I-64/Airport Drive bridge replacement and interchange improvements project. All northbound and southbound lanes will be shifted onto the northbound side of Airport Drive for crews to work in the southbound lanes. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Southwest Airlines April 12 launched its new Richmond-to-Chicago nonstop service, which will run five days a week initially before increasing to daily in May. Chicago was the sixth most popular destination for travelers flying from Richmond International Airport in 2019, with more than 170,000 doing so. The new service will connect RIC to Chicago Midway. In addition to Chicago, Southwest will add nonstop service from Richmond to Denver (RIC's eighth most popular destination) May 9.
