Henrico County reported 61 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, matching its average seven-day moving rate of new daily cases, according to the Virginia Department of Health. After the slight surge last week, cases are beginning to come back down. During the weekend, there were were a total of four virus-related deaths and two hospitalizations in Henrico, according to VDH data. The Henrico Health District reached 200 reported outbreaks on Monday. According to the VDH, the two only other health districts to reach 200 reported outbreaks are Fairfax and Richmond. The Henrico County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is accepting enrollment in SMART Scapes, a program that helps residents assess their home landscape and offers guidance on planting, pruning and mulching. For a fee, Master Gardener volunteers will visit a home, analyze the landscape and prepare reference materials customized for the landscape. A vigil is planned for the Varina High School student who was shot and killed in Richmond last week. The event, designed to honor the life of Vinshaun Johnson, will take place April 14 at 5 p.m. at Forest Hill Park, 4021 Forest Hill Avenue, in Hut 1. Attendees are asked to wear black and yellow, the colors of Johnson’s favorite NFL team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. At least one person died in a crash on I-295 northbound near Exit 37 (Mechanicsville Turnpike) Monday morning. Virginia State Police reported that the accident occurred in Henrico County, while the Virginia Department of Transportation said it took place in Hanover County. The border between the two counties runs through the immediate vicinity of the crash. Northbound lanes in the area were completely closed for several hours following the crash.Article Link

Henrico Police have arrested and charged a 19-year-old with felony hit and run in connection with a crash that killed a 43-year-old Henrico woman Saturday night in the West End Manor neighborhood. Meleana Klenota is charged in the incident, in which Shannon O’Leary was struck and killed in the 9300 block of Meadowgreen Road, in the front yard of a residence, according to police. O’Leary’s husband, Andy Meyers, wrote on Facebook that she was taking the family’s dog for a walk when she was struck. Witnesses reported that she was pinned against another car after being hit. Varina High School student Vinshaun D. Johnson has been identified as the victim in a shooting earlier this week in Richmond. He was a junior at the school. Johnson was the youngest of 10 children, according to his family. A GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family. Harmon, William Barry, age 75, of Richmond, passed from this life on April 1, 2021. He was born in Richmond, Va on November 16, 1945. He was the oldest of four children of the late Charles Bennett Harmon and the late Marian Lowry Harmon. As a youth he enjoyed Little League baseball, Babe Ruth League baseball, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Royal Ambassadors. He especially loved hunting, fishing and the great outdoors.
