Friend... can we be honest about friendships for a minute?
Some friendships are meant to last a lifetime.
And some? Well... they might have an expiration date.
And before you think that sounds harsh, hear me out.
Midlife has a funny way of changing our relationships. The built-in friendships from playdates, carpools, school events, and busy parenting years start to disappear. Our priorities change. We change. And sometimes we look around and realize the friendships that once felt so natural don't feel quite the same anymore.
In this week's episode of Her Next Chapter, we're having a girlfriend-to-girlfriend conversation about midlife friendships, loneliness, outgrowing relationships, making new friends, and finding your people in this next season of life.
I'm also sharing why I've been incredibly intentional about friendship throughout my life, what celebrating my 50th birthday with girlfriends I've had for 20–30 years reminded me about meaningful connection, and why I believe good girlfriends really can change your life.
But we're also talking about the harder part...
What happens when a friendship no longer feels good?
When you're always the one reaching out?
When you leave feeling drained instead of loved?
Or when you realize you've simply grown in different directions?
Friend, you don't have to make anyone the villain.
Sometimes you can simply say...
Love and light. I release you.
Because not everyone is meant to come with you into every chapter.
☕ In This Coffee Chat, We're Talking About:
- Why friendships in midlife can suddenly feel so different
- The loneliness women experience when built-in social connections disappear
- Why meaningful friendships require intentionality
- How knowing yourself helps you find women who genuinely align with you
- Giving yourself permission to outgrow friendships without guilt
- Why history alone isn't always a reason to keep a relationship
- Staying open to making new friends after 40 and 50
- How resentment can be a sign that it's time to reevaluate a friendship
- Grieving the loss of a friendship without believing something went wrong
- Recognizing the relationship patterns that may require some deeper healing
💛 What I Hope You Take With You
You are allowed to change.
You are allowed to want deeper friendships.
You are allowed to stop chasing people who aren't choosing you.
And you're allowed to grieve relationships that mattered while still recognizing they may no longer belong in your next chapter.
The goal isn't to collect more friends.
It's to find your people.
The women who make you laugh until your stomach hurts.
The women who celebrate you.
The women who tell you the truth.
The women you don't have to perform around.
The women who make you feel more like yourself, not less.
Because life is already hard enough.
Friendship should be one of the places where you get to come home to yourself.
