A Woman’s Worth continues to promote National Faith HIV/AIDS Awareness Day observed on August 29. This is a day to engage faith communities to work together for HIV/AIDS education, prevention, treatment, care, and support, and to reduce and eliminate stigma and discrimination. This episode “A Woman’s Worth” features Mrs. Crystal Nelson with St. Paul AME Church in Montgomery. Listeners will learn how St. Paul AME Church became involved in HIV/AIDS work. Also, Crystal shared information about projects and upcoming events offered by the church. Also, listeners learn ways people of faith can share information about National Faith HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and get involved in HIV.

This week a Woman’s Worth welcomed Dafina Ward, Executive Director of Southern AIDS Coalition (SAC).  Dafina provided information about her journey in HIV and her journey with SAC. In addition, she shared with listeners background information about SAC including SAC’s advocacy work in the South. Listeners learned that SAC started in Alabama and serves many states across the South. Also, listeners were informed on SAC’s current initiatives.

This week's episode is all about Monkeypox. Dr. Pamela Payne-Foster provided information about Monkeypox. Listeners were informed on the modes of transmission and symptoms of Monkeypox. Dr. Foster provided Information on treatment and the vaccine for Monkeypox. Listeners were also provided some information on HIV during the program. In addition, hosts shared information about the importance of women being informed and aware of Monkeypox and sharing the information with loved ones and others.

This episode featured St. Paul AME Church’s "SHE LOOKS LIKE ME" Initiative. Listeners heard the story and journey of an HIV positive African American Woman. Also, listeners were informed on the initiative and the efforts to educate and provide HIV testing for African American Women. In addition, listeners received information on the work the church is doing to reduce HIV infections among cis gender women.

A Woman’s Worth Community Health and Wellness Radio Program welcomed Dr. LaRon Nelson with Yale University to the program to talk with Dr. Foster and Mrs. White. Dr. Nelson shared information about his background, journey, and role at Yale University. Also, Dr. Nelson informed listeners on current research projects that will take place in Alabama, particularly Montgomery. In addition, Dr. Nelson provided his work in MSM research and the intersection with HIV prevention. Moreover, Dr. Nelson talked with the co-hosts about lessons learned from COVID.

A Woman’s Worth Community Health and Wellness Radio Program recognizes National HIV Testing Day (June 27)! Mrs. Jora White with the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) HIV/AIDS Division joined co-hosts Dr. Pamela Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White to provide information about HIV Testing.  Mrs. Jora White shared with listeners information on the various HIV tests available. She informed listeners on locations to get tested as well as HIV testing activities and events taking place in Montgomery and across the state for National HIV Testing Day.  In addition, Jora informed listeners on the importance of all women screening for HIV and all women making HIV testing apart of their routine screenings.

Dr. Pamela Payne-Foster gives a presentation at the Breaking Barriers Symposium called A Pathway to EHE - Lessons Learned from an Community Engaged Scholar. In the talk, she gives an introduction to the project called Ending the HIV Epidemic, discusses how academic and community partnerships are a part of this project, and describes two example faith-based projects in the community.

A Woman’s Worth Community Health and Wellness Show celebrates Women’s Health Month! Mrs. Jora White with the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) HIV/AIDS Division joined co-hosts Dr. Pamela Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White to provide an update on HIV and Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE). Mrs. White shared with listeners upcoming women’s health programs hosted by ADPH HIV/AIDS Division.  Mrs. White informed listeners on the importance of community and faith leaders as well as community and faith organizations partnering with ADPH to get involved in the work of Ending the HIV Epidemic. In addition, Mrs. White discuss the importance of creating innovative approaches to educating individuals in Alabama to prevent the spread of HIV.

Ms. Teresa Tillman with Alabama Coalition Against Rape (ACAR) informed listeners about ACAR and services they provide for women. Also, listeners received information about Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and HIV. Listeners were informed that IPV can increase a woman’s risk for HIV. Teresa shared with listeners the types of IPV, and ways women can reduce IPV. In addition, Teresa provided information on upcoming programs and trainings ACAR is hosting for women in Montgomery and across the state.
