Peter and John are arrested and questioned by the Jewish leaders, and based on their responses, everyone knew that they had been with Jesus because they were like Jesus. In this confrontational passage, we learn a simple yet profound truth. Want to be like Jesus? Be with Jesus.

Just weeks after Jesus' crucifixion, God sent His Spirit just as He promised. As Jesus' disciples are empowered, they begin to speak in other languages and Peter stands up and preaches the good news of the Gospel resulting in thousands of people responding to the truth of Jesus.

Which came first, the church or the mission? In Acts 1, Jesus tells His disciples that they will be witnesses everywhere of the things they saw, namely His death, burial, and resurrection for the sins of humanity.

In his final words in 2 Samuel as well as the final message to his son, Solomon, David gives a godly example of reflecting on a life filled with highs and lows and the desire to pass along godly insight to those who are coming behind him.

Sin never stays put. It's either being killed or killing. David's sin from chapter 11 continues to spread among his family as we see his own children and his kingdom tear themselves apart modeling their behavior after David's.

David's life begins much like any other rags to riches, but this part of David's life would be better described as riches to rags as he takes what is not his and is willing to kill to keep it hidden from view.

The grace of God is not for "whole" people; it is explicitly for the broken. In this story about a king keeping his promises to the weak and undeserving, we see one of the most beautiful illustrations of God's grace in the Bible.

Christians would universally say that they desire God's presence, but as we examine even David's life, we find that God's presence in ours means submitting our will to His and not the other way around.

God allows all of us to spend seasons in the wilderness. In these moments, it feels like God is far away and we often wonder what He is up to. But David has come to understand that God does some of His best work in the wilderness.
