There is nothing wrong with telling yourself you are special. However, your past and present actions and existence must reflect unselfishness and greatness.

Several years ago a good friend taught me a lesson about not giving up on anything and asking for help until someone tells you No. It goes back to a philosophy of never quit and never be denied.
