Hijab Pride, Hijab Hide: A Podcast by Mallak
(This Podcast was submitted as an entry in the 2023 NPR Student Podcast Challenge 4th-8th Grade Competition)
My name is Mallak and I'm an 8th-grade student at Herricks Middle School. As a student who wears a hijab, I interview a friend who also wears a hijab. There's one catch, she pretends to her parents that she wears it during the day when in school. To keep her secret safe, I refer to her as "Natasha" in our recording. I hope that this helps people understand what a few American Muslim Females experience growing up. This is a candid conversation about our experiences. We both support one another and have this conversation to present our background in a positive light.

Sometimes we think of these topics when we are daydreaming, getting ready in the morning, or staring off into space! As we think deeper about certain topics, we bounce ideas off one another and give our blind reactions in the moment. We want to share our own thoughts on hotly debated topics in our society. Our group is focused on making our voices heard as students of HMS and just having fun In this episode we give you an overview of our podcast and what you can expect in future episodes.
